Almost the same thing happened to me! I had just bought a new helmet for dirt biking that let me listen to music from my iPod, I was out practicing then I fell in the swamp because my chain came off and got stuck in the rim which locked up the rear tire and then the iPod was messed up due to the swampy water wipeout. After that I had let it sit on the counter then bugs hatched in it and I sent it back to apple.

Rice sounded really gay to me as well, but it works. I opened up one of those rice bags that you boil and let my Ipod sit in it overnight and it worked in the morning.

Oven sounds really weird to me, but worth a shot if the rice does not work for some reason.

Do you have a warranty? They usually come with one year, I've dropped my ipod into the wash bowl, and dropped hundreds of times, didn't break, you're probably just unlucky, I'd just ring them up the number is
0911 775 0307. I have heard of various techniques, not too sure they work, but if you have got warranty I'd use it, if not I'd either pay for repair, or try one of the tricks.

Even with the warranty, it doesn't cover water damages. What should I tell them if I decide to call them?

Tell them you got it as a gift but couldn't open it until now since it was your birthday today, then tell them the screen won't turn on and such.

Let it dry out for about a day, don't expect instant results. I had a notebook take severe water damage, same symptoms as yours, but after about a day of drying over a heat vent on a makeshift rack it worked again.

If you drop it in the water u should wait for it to dry for couple of days, nobody is stupid enough to try to turn it on right after u pick it up from the water =|

You usually do get a 1 year warantee when you buy an iPod, or any other electronic, some companies ask for an extra fee, like $10 though. Did you pay anything extra?

    Eh, no :/

@Brandon, that only works with phones and Apple is really strict with water damages on their products.

Put it in the airing cuboard like you should do with any electrical good that gets water damaged and leave it a few days. If not put it in rice, like people have said it will just absorb the moisture out of it, you will have to leave it a few days either way you do it.

Putting it in the oven is an idiot idea, lets melt the inside plastics then its got no chance of working.. Plastic doesn't exactly have a high melting point..

You have no chance of exchanging it. The water damage slip inside turns red when its exposed to water.

If you have the kahunas and a steady hand you can take it apart and see if the slip can be replaced (not sure on this one) or you can send it off to get parts replaced and repaired. However, with the price of iTouch's going down daily I would just invest in a new one.

You will probably be able to return it if you turn up convinced with a good reason. Is this screen sort of snowy now? Or can you tell that there is water damage? Because in that case they will not accept it. Currently, I would tell you to put it in a bag of rice for 12-24 hours (rice is one of the best absorbents in the world, and it pulls all the remaining water out of the phone). Then I would try to make the screen look as convincing as possible before going to return it.

Apple has a system where when water reaches the electronics the "water damage slip" turns red. There are no replacements to these that you can buy from retailers but ask around, surely someone will have access to some somewhere. As for the backstory on the water damage " I was biking home from school because my parents spent their monet buying this for me *sob* and then when I was finishing my water and bread for tea i was about to get the naughty stick *sob* so I biked as fast as I could, I evaded getting hit by a car but fell into a un-convienient pond. I treid to dry it but i wasn't allowed to go back home *sob*. I was allowed back home but I *sob* cant *stutter* go out with my friends because I treated the present with *sob* no respect. *ouuuccchhh* *please mom, Im trying to get a replacement* * slap*slap*. try that :D

Yeah, the rice works. I've done it many times before.

Alright guys. I've had this recently looked at, and it's impossible to fix this unless I pay $150. I'm just going to buy a brand new iPod. Thanks for all your suggestions. I really appreciate it.
