Disallow unban services.

After speaking to Roary about my situation he advised me to post it here so i shall.

First allow me to say, i'm surprised this is allowed here AT ALL, it's clearly a SHAM.

My RS main was banned 3 weeks ago and i chalked him up as a loss and went about my business, one day i stumbled upon a thread offering unban services, after much speculation i went ahead and contacted sephirofl and purchased his $25 unlimited unban services Here thinking, "Hey, why not try it and see if it works?"

So. Basically, he communicates through email with instructions and a letter of how to go about and try to get unbanned. After reading his letter and instructions littered with grammar and vocabulary errors i immediately thought, what a damn waste of my money.

The unban services he offers is something that ANY veteran MMORPG player knows already, unfortunately obviously i can't tell you guys what the method is even though a simple google search will teach you how it's done.

Also, as far as i know you aren't allowed to sell things that are free anyway right? Since this guide (hes basically selling a guide) is known and is available elsewhere for FREE he shouldn't be allowed to continue his services.

Also, if i'm able to show a mod or admin the letter he gave me you can CLEARLY tell it's copy and pasted and NOT a letter he writes to every individual.

Like i stated above, his letter wasn't professional as multiple words were misspelled and improper grammar was used AND his "trade secret methods" are well known.

TLDR? Unban services are clear schemes and is a loophole around the current rules of selling free items\guides.

 

Is he just selling a guide? If it is then it obviously falls under the guide section. If it is nothing but free information and you can prove it then you SHOULD demand a refund.

 

Hes marketing it as a "service" but it's basically a guide and a copy and pasted template of a letter. I don't even care to ask for a refund it was only $25 but i think this shouldn't be allowed on sythe for multiple reasons one of which, selling unbanning guides is against the rules.

It's a clear waste of money and i don't want others wasting there money on junk.

 

Support. It seems pretty clear these "guides" are just being used to take advantage of those who are desperate to get their account back.

 

I am curious as to why Roary sent you here. I don't really think this is an issue up for debate as it would obviously be against the rules, if it is as you described. Since you brought up concerns about it there should be an investigation.

Agreed. Things that are not a guaranteed service shouldn't be allowed.

For example, if you paid somebody to get you a fire cape, you expect a refund if they fail.

You shouldn't be paying for the "attempt" or I could open my own service doing anything, fail and be like oh well, i tried?

Yeah I am not a fan of the so called "recovery services". If you cannot guarantee the unban, then why provide the service at all.

I would support this not being allowed on Sythe.

 

Seemingly this is an individual situation where you had a poor experience with someone who has poor english and little knowledge in the service they were providing. Some unban services actually do work.

Although I agree that the majority are probably scams and if they actually did unban the account they would probably wipe the account and claim it wasn't them.

 

I've never seen any other unban services offered on Sythe other than his. For someone who has "2 years of experience and 800 clients" I assumed he'd have plenty of knowledge of the service that he attempts to provide. I'd gladly pay more than $25 to get my account unbanned but it's clear that he doesn't offer any sort of new or innovative technique to getting unbanned.

 

I support this. no reasoning, I just think the service is a complete joke.

 

How is it allowed if there are no proved results? If it's already free information (which OP says it is so maybe a mod can confirm) then this should be disallowed.

 

I support that these should be not allowed because it is not 100% that your account is going to be unbanned so tecinally they could give you bogus info and your account Dosent get unbanned but they still keep the 20$ or so you paid for the service

 

Support, I've always thought Sephirofl's unbanning service was ridiculous. People paying for a chance at being unbanned are giving their money to him out of desperation and expect him to use his "secret methods" to recover their accounts

In reality, anyone with moderate experience has just as good a chance.


Shouldn't Sephirofl be banned if he can't provide proof that he actually uses unknown "trade secrets"?

 

Personally I think it should just be pushed into the guide section, no reason to disallow it completely.

 

unbanning guides are already not allowed.

 

As long as what he's providing as a service isn't illegal, common knowledge/can be found elsewhere on the Internet for free, I'm ok with it.

 

If it's a guide, then you'd have to ban A LOT of guide topics to make this fair.

If you can, however, prove that it's available for free with a simple google search, then you can report the thread for "selling free things", which will get it locked.

 

Support, these services seem shady and easy for the owners to scam.
