Should I Legally Change My Name?

It really depends what your reasons are for wanting to change it. When I was younger, I wanted to change my name, but then I realized the problems that would arise from doing so. I would might have to update my legal documents and payment information, and get a new license and passport. Old friends of mine might have a hard time finding my contact information. I would only change my name if it was something really embarrassing.

 

my last name sounds silly. im going to turn 18 in a few days and i think my parents r idieuts for naming me what my name is now.

 

You really have to tell us, or someone what it is. It could be a great name! why be the same as everyone else, just another smith or something. Break the mould! pm me it if you really want and I will respond maturely and discretely if its that bad. (I'm sure its not!)

 

Sorry for not giving you a yes/no answer. I think it's difficult because I would have to really be in your shoes to give you a proper decision. If you're last name is silly or bugging you to a point were you're unhappy or people are teasing you, then changing your name could be a good decision. I used to know someone with the last name "Crapp," and he was often a victim to ridicule, but he still hasn't changed his name.

 

First, I think you should tell us what your name is so that we can help you decide

Second, it may be wise to first discuss WHY you want to change your name. I can tell you that I used to dislike my name when I was growing up because its very unique and I'd get so many comments/questions about it, but as I got older I started to like it alot, aswell as the attention I get from it. I'm glad I never went through with changing my first name to my middle name (Matthew).

 

I think that its your choice we cant make that for you. So I would say its up to you and not the community.

 

If you think it sounds silly, look at your family.
I changed my name a few years ago, and I look back now and i've killed off the family name as i'm the only grandchild to carry it on. The rest of my family have the same name (my uncles) and I feel like an outsider when i'm with them.

Try and find some good in the bad.
