well actually i can get deeper but for this first internet support going to post on the lighter side until i can see if the advice given helps <3 not that im doubting just you know -.-

Alright so i gamble quite a bit :\ honestly it wouldnt be so wrong if i didnt have that kind of personality, lots of people can go to the casino and quit after getting up,

    not me :(

have an addictive personality :\ i believe this all comes down to me having ocd

i need advice on not having urges to gamble or at least significantly lessen those urges.

any tips / suggestions would be greatly appreciated

i would like to state that im not bad at gamblin i just cant stop when im winning however this attitude probably makes it worse all together

maybe you can like find a way to get yourself really busy with other things so you barely have any time for gambling? Start thinking that your addiction could even leave you with no money if you're careless

Do you gamble online, at casinos/houses or both?

If you're gambling alot online, create an alternate savings account, and deposit the majority of your money/savings/whatever into that account. These accounts do not allow virtual deposits/withdrawals, so you'd have to physically go to your bank to withdraw funds. This would significantly decrease your online spending/gambling. It's also a great way to incentivise savings.

If you're prone to going to houses/casinos, try and condition yourself to where you perceive going as a waste of time. If your daily routine involves frequenting the casino/houses, attempt to replace that urge with something else. Pick up a sport, hobby, hang out with friends, learn a language; anything that will keep you occupied.

It wont be an overnight change, but if you remain assiduous towards it, and are honest to yourself, you will overcome it.

You can't be good or bad at gambling. Poker is the only game that has a 50/51 % (loss/win) ratio. Meaning, it's not a gamble per say. AFAIK, all other casino and house games are a gamble, skill is irrelevant, as it's non-factor.

As Sellerman asked above, it would help knowing whether it's online or physical gambling.

If you're going to a casino, i would just recommend to stop. Fill the void with something else (you could do this if you gambled online too).

Whenever you get that urge to gamble, do something constructive (or not). If you can find a hobby this would help dramatically.

Do your friends know about the addiction?

The way to do it is to be realistic with yourself. There is always a voice in your head that says "why can't I do it just a little", you have to understand the addiction only goes away when you come to terms that you can't set a limit that's why you have the addiction, you might pull out 50 and say hey if I loose this I go home, even if you stay to your limits you are still feeding your urge to continue gambling, the fact that its glamourized as well isn't helping but that's where you have to be realistic with even your self image, next time you are at a casino don't picture your self as 007 picture yourself as a junkie sitting at the slot machine throwing away all your money, it's just a different game but its all the same. Honestly wish you the best of luck considering gambling has been something that has had a massive affect on myself and my family (dad). It's a cancer brother get rid of it all because the smallest ruminants will bring it back.

I was in the same position to an extent with staking on runescape actually. I would get cleaned and the next day I would buy gold and start again, each time thinking I would make it all back.

I have a slight issue with dicing here on sythe but it's not an addiction it's calculating the risk and the reward. I would recommend just find something else worth doing. Something like read a book play an online game and realize that you don't want your money to just be pissed away.

When you go gambling, go with a level headed friend who will stop you before you go overboard when you're on either a winning/losing streak, and won't let you keep gambling no matter how much kicking or screaming you do.

Set a limit you want to gamble (say $100) or like 20 pulls on a slot machine or a couple hands of blackjack, then have your friend keep count and then make you leave when you either lose the $100/done the 20 puls/etc. Simple

Puppet I'm sorry but you are an awful gambler. Message me on skype, I already have a plan worked out to not stop you from gambling, but to limit your gambling and become a smarter gambler.

Set aside a certain amount of money, say, per month (or however long) that you're going to gamble, and stick to it. It's sort of like a budget, in a sense. Once you've lost, or spent, that money (do not add your winnings to this), quit until you restock that money.

Each time you restock, put a little less in. Assuming you want to stop gambling altogether (or maybe cut it down to very little), keep reducing the amount you're allowed to gamble until it's either gone, or at a satisfactory amount.

The key to any of these self-control or self-motivational things is being able to convince yourself to make a regimen and stick to it. There are things you can do in order to help you stop or limit it, but honestly, 80% of the work is you.

I know it's kinda hard, but try to imagine yourself to be in a financially difficult situation.. where money comes in very hard for you. Think so hard about it that it freaks you out, and you stop playing them forever.

Find something else to fill your time. And if you find that you can't do anything without getting addicted, pick up something constructive and enjoyable to get addicted to, like playing a sport or learning a new skill

Withdraw the money you can afford to gamble & leave your cards at home, if you win big use your willpower and walk away if you don't then you've only spent the money you could afford to spend anyway. That's just how I'd work it if I had a problem.
