    Girl Problem

So I have known this girl since she has been born. My parents have known her's for about 22 years now. We started hanging out more then we ever have and I started to develop feelings for her. I didn't know how to go about addressing it so I came out and told her that I liked her. Shockingly she had the same feelings towards me. Now we are in a situation because we both would like to take a chance and start dating but we are afraid that our parents may not approve do to the fact that it may ruin their relationship we have ever broke up. Any suggestions? If you need anymore information feel free to ask.

Yeah I have thought about it. I even offered to talk to her parents myself in order to try and gain her dads approval. If he says no I feel like things may become extremely awkward.

You both sound like reasonable people, I highly doubt if you did break up it would effect the ties between your parents. But as stated above, don't let this chance slip away because you never know you two might go on to get married, have kids etc.. Don't let yourself regret it!

Is it fair to put myself above my parent's relationship with her family? Doesn't that seem a bit selfish?

I don't think its selfish at all, if you have feelings for eachother I think you should go for it. Your parents relationship shouldn't be hugely be affected by this either way tbh.

So let's say for example we do date and we break up. After that it creates an awkwardness. Then our parent's stop talking. I feel like then it would be my fault and be selfish. Does that make sense?

Well, I think you should go on and make both of yourselves happy, and get on with the relationship.

Imagine having to live which not ever being together, and seeing each other frequently because of your parents close relationship with them. You gotta step it up man, and in my opinion, if ever you do break up, make sure its not the kind where you hate each other.

I really don't think that'd be too awkward for your parents, more so awkward for you. If your parents have had such a long friendship with them I doubt it could be so easily shaken.

Honestly if you really like her you should just take the shot, you never know what might come of it!

The fact that you're already thinking about this means that you ARE looking at it from both sides. It almost seems like you're trying to give yourself an excuse not to go out with her lol. The possibility of a little awkwardness in the future is nothing in comparison with living in regret.

It's not that I am trying to give myself an excuse not to date her. But I have to think of my family first and if it has a chance of causing a rift within my family I am only trying to figure out if it is worth it or not.

You're obviously not too serious about her, if you were you wouldn't be asking this question.

So you believe that a girl is worth tearing you family up over? Or even having the possibility to? Also I like her a lot and I am pretty serious which is why I have gotten to this point of asking myself the question.

I don't think you're really thinking rationally, if this doesn't go well I don't see this "tearing up your family." At worst there is a little awkwardness between the two parties that they get over with. Is going out with her worth the couple awkward moments? If you like her "a lot" the answer seems pretty clear.

You're probably right I am not thinking rationally about it which is why I am asking for the opinions to see other people's sides of what they think that I should do.

most likely it will not affect y'all parents in any way shape or form, i would say follow your heart if you don't you will always regret it in the future you never know what path it will take you down though man , just treat her as any gentleman would and you relationship will go along ways, and won't hurt her parents relationship either
