Unbelievable New Scam ><

Scammers have done it again. Invented newer and more sophisticated ways to scamm. This one was pulled on me earlier today.

Scammer Adds Official MM into the conversation and has the MM Pm the buyer or seller or what ever.

Once the pm has been recieved the scammer laggs and boots the mm off msn and then freezes his or her msn until the trade is over.

Whilst the mms Msn is frozen the scammer will use the program miranda or any other imitating msn programs to imitate the mm's email exactly (A bit vague on what happens during this part, pieced it together as i was offline and unable to access my msn) .

Buyer blissfully unaware still thinks he or she is dealing with an official mm proceeds with the trade and then gets scammed.

The only way of combatting this that i can think of is, if your mm disconnects have him or her send you another pm on sythe to eliminate the possibility of fakes. Post your suggestions on how to eliminate this scamm, it could see all of our most trusted members banned.

Yea, they won't yet, i have gotten scammed by this way. I personally didn't know what to do. so i just wen't along. Then i took back my account, because of this scammer, so no losses :].

 

Funny. More scams are developed everyday, yet where are the cheats?

 

This isnt really a new scam, since the main scam here is miranda but all they're doing is bringing back the stupidity of freezing people's msn.

 

I suggest the MM having to PM the user while still in the trade window? Also, the MM should always have a side conversation open with both the buyer and the seller?

EDIT: It may be too much work, but the MM could have another MSN open specifically for either the buyer or seller, to keep contact at all times?

 

Use aim or something when you're dealing with this type of trade.. Surely MSN isn't the only way out communicating.

 

Didnt you read this, he says the scammer freezes the msn of the real MM, they cant go on MSN, then invites the fake MM who is using miranda IM which can put a billion spaces in your personal message so looks exactly like real MM, hardly any way to avoid this unless you know what your dealing with and if youve read this thread its easier to know..
Also if your using windows messenger you can detect the person using mirada im's msn straight away.

If you really want to use msn then use the version you get with your computer, windows messenger.

Scammers are actually pretty smart..
Just gotta keep your head up and ask for multiple PM's

just use old msn or an online mesenger

 

Or... You could download a patch to make freezing impossible... You could also use msn 6.0-7.5, they do not freeze... It only really works with Live Products of msn.

A simple way to avoid this scam:

Ask the MM to pm his RS account's name on sythe.

Easy. Have the MM pm you the name of the account that he's planning to use. Make the account names easy so they can't be faked and that way, the buyer can check the account names before handing over the money.
