    Hunting - Anyone Else?

All of my life I've grew up living in an area surrounded with woods/mountains. I remember when I was 4 setting in the truck with my father while he was hunting whitetail Deer. I loved seeing them when they came in and etc. At about 7 my grandfather started taking me hunting with him. He taught me everything from gun safety to hunting practices. Now at 26, I'm going Turkey Hunting with him opening saturday (super excited) as I know in reality he doesn't have that many years left and tomorrow for anyone isn't promised. I've taken a good amount of whitetails, October 5th, 2013 I killed my first black bear. (the first in my family and still the only one to date). I really love hunting and spending time in the woods. Last year I killed three deers. I hit one with my Horton crossbow during archery season. (the arrow knicked a limb after reviewing footage and penatrated in the lower leg) I tracked that deer for 6 hours until the blood trial quit entirely. I was so tore up over it as I hate the thought of wounding the animal I hunt whatever it may be. I saw that deer a few days ago of my trial camera. I'm so relieved he survived! The first deer I killed last year was with my knight & hale muzzleloader. I was setting in my treestand. I grunted with the call 2 or 3 times. (short tending grunts) here comes the spiked charging in like he's the kind of the forest. The powerbelt penatrated his chest cavity he fell in his tracks. Amen! Gutted him and drug him out then hung him in the cooler for 7 days before skinning him and processing the meat. I took 2 more deer during that 7 days, the 3rd I almost got a shot at another black bear. (he had started eating the deer I shot the afternoon before at last shooting light) If only I had of tried being quite while tracking I would of gotten a shot. =( but yea. I truly love hunting and it will be something I love doing until the day I die whether it be deers, turkey, bear or even squirrels in august before deer season comes in. I use that time to ready my stands and scout the area for sign and so forth. Does anyone else here hunt on a regular basis year to year?

I have, but not for years. The only person I know personally who goes fishing regularly is my uncle, and we're not that close. Seems like a hard sport to get into if you aren't with someone who knows what they're doing, ya know

Indeed, I use to fish for rainbow trout in streams and rivers. I was also heavily into catfishing in big rivers a few years back. It does take some knowledge to be successful on a regular basis. It's easy to get into though, someday go to a local lake or pond in your area with a pole #6 fishing hooks and a carton of nightcrawlers (worms) you're almost guarantee'd to catch atleast something a majority of the time. (there will be days when nothing bites though. whether its due to weather or water conditions. etc)

Haven't hunted this year. Killed two fairly good sized hogs last year and tons of dove.

I primarily hunt hogs and dove, in Texas deer hunts are generally guided feeder bullshit. I've had the pleasure of deer hunting a few times in Georgia and loved it.. Been fishing a dozen or more times this year, I'm a far more avid fisherman than I am hunter.

To hunt I assume you guys have firearms, stop by my thread and let's talk shop! www.sythe.org/general-discussion/1685082-firearms-talk-enthusiats-not-anti-gun-bedwetters-6.html
