Account Recovery

I've played RuneScape for many years and I've always stuck to the rule:
NEVER BUY AN ACCOUNT.

As they can ALWAYS be recovered no matter what. Unless a very trusted person is the original owner, than it's too risky. I recently purchased an account off KMJT only because he's the original owner and is very trusted. Even if you bought an account off someone who is very trusted, if he's not the original owner, the person who sold him the account could recover it at any time.

The reason I made this thread is because I'm wondering if accounts can be non-recoverable now since emails have been introduced. I am aware emails have now been used for quite some time, but I have always wondered this and never really received an answer. Now, I would like to know more than ever because I'm looking to purchase some account(s) and it really limits your search when you can only buy from very trusted.

For instance, I used to recover my account using the first ever used password and/or recovery question. When I added an email, I didn't really think much of it until the day I wanted to change the password because I forgot it and I couldn't do anything with the account because I forgot the email. I have emailed Jagex and they send an email asking for all this information, but I've never taken the time to reply.

So, I would like to hear it from you guys. Are accounts still recoverable no matter what as long as you are the original owner? If so, how so? Would they recover them by emailing Jagex and giving them all the original details of the account?

I was also curious as to what you guys think of PlayerAutions? I don't even trust to buy an account of there, because if they're always recoverable, then it's too risky and not worth it. Even if PlayerAuctions guarantees money back guarantee if you are hacked or for the account to be recovered, what happens if you had gold on there or it was a pure and they raised the defence? 1.) You wouldn't be able to prove it. 2.) The account is ruined because it has defence even if the owner is able to recover the account. Is this correct, or how does all that work?

No, accounts can still be recovered by the original owner, even if they new owner has set the registered email, bank PIN, recovery questions, and JAG.

Jagex will remove the email registered to an account if the original owner requests. For example, my very first main account that I used when I started playing back in 2005 was hacked around 2007. In 2013, I simply posted on a thread in the support section of the RSOF saying that I wanted to recover the account, and that the creation IP of the account I was posting from would be the same as my old accounts. The removed the email registered to the account and I recovered it instantly - even though I had not seen the account in over half a decade and had no account information whatsoever other than the log-in name.

Buying an account is always a no-win situation. Let's say you buy a decent 07 pure from PA for $100, quest it up to a zerker, get barrows gloves, get venge/ice barrage, get 99 strength, and make 250m 07 staking. You now have put in 100+ hours of work on the account and the gold on the account is worth $600+.

If the original owner of the account recovers it some months later, PA *MIGHT* refund you the $100 you paid for the account if you bought the insurance. But at that point, who gives a fuck about the $100 since the original owner of the account profited almost $1000 from the scam, and the gold/stats you got him? PA is a moderately safer way to protect your original investment, but the risk of account buying goes on long after you actually pay for it.

 

Okay, thanks. Cleared up some questions I had.

Not just the fact accounts aren't safe to buy, but how they recover them & how PA deals with accounts being hacked.

I'll never buy another account from a new person after being scammed yesterday. I bought one from KMJT, and then decided to try it out on another person knowing I was taking a risk and was scammed in less than an hour. That's why I was overpaying to go to KMJT anad that's what I will continue to do.

Yeah I'm paying a lot for that, but it's my own account, my own email, my own everything. I'm selling out all my accounts and making that one my main, because then I know I'll have 1000000% security on it, and never have to worry. Basically what I'm getting as it, make your own and pay someone to get the stuff for you if you don't feel like getting the initial stats, I always prefer getting the higher stats and never doing the lower myself.
