How did she get charged with involuntary manslaughter? How the hell is what she did "involuntary"? She basically told him to do it. She even helped him.

 

Seen it before but I honestly don't see how the charges are that low. Involuntary manslaughter seems weird considering the people who made fun of that girl that drank bleach were getting some bullshit like 2nd degree.

 

What a bitch. Is there something I'm missing here as to why she would encourage him like she is? Were they planning on doing it together or something?

Three elements must be satisfied in order for someone to be found guilty of involuntary manslaughter:

Someone was killed as a result of act by the defendant.
The act either was inherently dangerous to others or done with reckless disregard for human life.
The defendant knew or should have known his or her conduct was a threat to the lives of others.

For example, Dan comes home to find his wife in bed with Victor. Distraught, Dan heads to a local bar to drown his sorrows. After having five drinks, Dan jumps into his car and drives down the street at twice the posted speed limit, accidentally hitting and killing a pedestrian.

People say "drink bleach" "kill yourself" in the Spam Forum all the time. And if someone who was told that did it that person shouldn't be held responsible.

If she had been there with him that's something else. But she's at home putting words on a screen. And they want to charge her with murder?

I'd say she deserves it myself, but I'm thinking of the implications a ruling like that would open up. Like the Spam Forum example.

IK, but I think that's stupid. Cyber bullying is real and it's bad, but they can be avoided so easily by even slightly decent parenting.

Literally millions of people I bet make a comment such as "kill yourself" every month. On the off chance that the person does, being held accountable for someone else's actions just doesn't sit right with me. Even if they are pretty scummy.

Its not the same thing.

This was his girlfriend. He was obviously mentally ill.

She talked him into killing himself, told him it was a good idea. Told him how, and guided him through the whole thing. Encouraged and manipulated him into doing it. When he said he wanted to back out she told him not to.

He obviously was the one to do it, but she undoubtedly caused his death.

 

This is a prime example of how gender biased the United States is. I can absolutely guarantee you that if it was the boy who convinced her to do that he'd have an unbelievably harsh sentence as she'd be labeled as nothing more than an "innocent, naive girl".
