    Creating a password reset disk.

    Hello,

There is a fair amount of people who have issues getting locked out of their computers frequently. It is very possible to run software that you can boot to that will blank the local administrator password, however that is considered hacking and a guide to that can hardly be found on google. :p

So i've decided to write a guide that will create a password reset, but without the use of hacking. This is a built-in windows function and is rather easy to do!

NOTE: This only works on computers not connected to a domain. As in, computers that are not connected to a network or domain controller.

This guide only works if you know the current administrator password.

Step one: Insert a blank disk. Windows will write the reset program to this disk to be used later on.

Step two: Click on start -> Settings -> Control panel. Go to the user accounts icon.

Step Three: Click the account that you would like to setup the reset disk for. In most cases, you're going to want to do the administrator account. This account could be named administrator, or something else.

Step four: On the top of the panel on the left side of the screen, you've got a few options here.

Click on the Prevent a Forgotten Password option :D

What's required here, on XP at least, is that you have a floppy drive. This is a must...

So insert your disk into drive A, then run the wizard. You will be prompted for the current user password, and when I said you need the current password above this is where this comes into place.

Input the current password, then click next. Let the wizard run it's time then click finish. Easy as pie! :D

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
