Guide to change your IP [Linksys] [QUICK]

Welcome to Chriscross23's second guide. In this guide I will be explaining to you how to change your IP using a Linksys router.

DISCLAIMER: I do not advise using this guide if you suffer from any mental disorder as it will screw up your internet halfway through the guide.

Well lets get started.

First things first you should go locate your router and modem and find the "reset" button the back. Once you have located this button you should press and hold it in for 30 seconds. After you have done this you should unplug the power cords to the modem and router for five minutes. Once you have let sit for 5 minutes you should plug them back in and give your internet 5-10 minutes to reboot and resynchronize everything.

After you have reconnected to your internet you should go to the following website. To get here you type in 192.168.1.1 inside the URL box.

Once there you will get this box:



In this box you will leave the username blank and type in the password as "Admin". Once you have successfully entered your password you should be redirected to a site that looks like this:



That should be the screen it prompts you to. Once on this screen click the "Mac Address Clone" button that I have kindly put a green box around. After you have clicked the mac address clone button it will bring you to a page that looks like this:



After you are to this page you should see 6 boxes that have a bunch of letters and numbers in them. Now we are almost finished. All you have to do now is change the last 3 boxes. You can put whatever you like in those three boxes as long as they meet the following criteria:
These are the ONLY digits or letters that can go in those boxes (you chose what goes where:
Anything from 0-9
Anything from A-F
You also must have 1 letter and 1 number in each.

Example of good input: A4
Example of bad input: AA
Example of bad input: Z9
Example of bad input: 99

Now after you have done this hit the "Save Settings" button.

Once you have hit that button you are almost finished. Now all you have to do is go back to your router and modem and unplug both of them for 30 seconds. Then plug them back in (power cords only) and wait for about 5-10 minutes for your internet to synchronize and then you should have a new IP address if you did everything correctly. Nicely written. However, you should use different colors for different parts of the guide. I suggest using "bold" for the buttons you have to click I do it myself. You also should use paragraphs. This is quite a basic guide though. But thanks for writing it anyhow.

 

Yeah I'm quite new to guides so I am just trying to get a feel for how to write them. I wasn't worried so much about format as I was about content/pictures and making it easy for people who have no idea what a static or dynamic IP is.
