    How to make hemp jewelry!

Hello and welcome to my guide on how to make hemp jewelry. In this guide I will be teaching you how to make bracelets, necklaces, and anklets with hemp string. Hemp jewelry looks very nice to wear, and also gives a type of natural look to you. When making hemp jewelry what you are doing is is basically just making a pattern of knots in a row to make a cool looking effect. The most common knot used while making hemp jwelry is the square knot, this also happens to be one of the easiest too so this is the knot we will be using to make in my tutorial.

Supplies you will need to make Hemp jewelry:

-Hemp string/twine (1mm is the recommended size)
    -Scissors
    -A bead
    -Thumbtacks
-Something that can hold the tacks while you are making the jewelry (I use soft covered books)

    Step One:
Get your hemp string and cut a piece of it that is roughly 5 or 6 times the length of the bracelet/anklet you want it to be. All this string is needed, because we are going to make alot of knots. To find how much string you need you basically just need to do is find out the circumference of your wrist, and multiply that by 6.

    Step Two:
Cut another piece of string that is double the length of your first one. I know this may seem like alot of string at first but trust me alot of string is needed to make hemp jewelry considering all of the knots that you will be making like I said before.

    Step Three:

Now that you have the string needed to make the bracelet/anklet you can put the remaining string away. In this step you will need to make a starting point for your knots, which will also act as a loop to put your bead through when your done. To do this all you really need to do is take both of your strings and pretty much fold them in half so you have even amounts of string on each side. Then you take the two strings together and make a knot. Make sure that you make a knot that is the right size for your bead. If it's to big or too small the bead might not fit. Here Is a picture of what it should look like after you have made the knot at the top:

    Step Four
Now that we have our starting loop finished we need to organize the strings in the right way to make them easier to make knots with. This part is very easy all you have to do is take the two longer strings and put them so that they are the farthest string out on both sides. You also need to make sure the two shorter strings are both between the two bigger strings (if you put the big strings on the outside right then the two smaller strings should already be in the middle). This would also be a good time to take something soft but sturdy (I use a soft covered book) and stick a tack through the starting loop and into the object so that your strings are sturdy, and it will be easier to knot.

    Step Five:

Now that we have everything ready we can start tying the knots to make the bracelet. The knot that we will learn is not that hard you just have to learn the rhythm and you are on your way. To start this knot you need to take your string on the far left (the long one) and place it over the two shorter strings in the middle. Then you need to take your string on the far right hand side (the other big string) and place it over the left hand string that you just moved. Then you need to take it under the two small strings, and up through the loop that you made with the left hand string. Pull the two strings, and you will be finished with the first part of the square knot!

    Step Six
In this step we are pretty much finishing the square knot, and getting the two longer strings on the outside back to where they should be. To do this part you need to take the long string on the left side and place it under the two smaller strings in the middle, and then finally over the longer string on the right side. Then you need to take the string on the right side and put it trough the hole you made on the left side. Pull the strings and you have successfully made your first square knot. If you are confused by what strings to put where here is a picture to help show you how to thread the strings through:

    Step Seven
Repeat steps 5 and 6 over and over until you have made the wanted length of your bracelet. Make sure that you have some room left to put the bead on in the end. A good tip for doing this is to not pull the strings too hard or too soft, and try to pull them with the same force each time. If you do this correctly it will make the knots look alot better.

    Step Eight
In this step we are going to finish the bracelet off with putting the bead on. Make sure you have a bead that is the right size for the loop, not too big or too small. First you need to take all four strings together, and slip the bead on so that all four strings are going through it. It may be hard to get all of the strings through the hole at once but keep on trying, and it should eventually go on. Now that you have the bead on all you need to do is make a simple knot, and pull it down close to the bead that you put on it. Make sure that you pull the strings tight so it won't come loose. After you have put the bead on and secured it, congratulations you have just made your first hemp bracelet/anklet!

If you need any help with any of these steps please feel free to contact me, and I will help you the best that I can!
