How To Make Clipping Masks With Gimp

Many people know how to make a clipping mask with photoshop, but there are few guides on this topic for GIMP.

    Step 1 -

Open up your image. I'll use this old signature of mine:

    Step 2 -

Make sure your signature/image is flattened into 1 layer.

    Step 3 -

Make a new layer the same size as your signature.

    Step 4 -

Brush around a bit with a brush. Splatter and Vine brushes work the best.

    Step 5 -

Make sure the brushing is on the new layer. Hide the brush layer.

    Step 6 -

Go to Edit > Copy Visible.

    Step 7 -

    Now show the brush layer.

    Step 8 -

Right click on the brush layer, and click on Alpha To Selection.

    Step 9 -

Go to Edit > Paste Into.

    Step 10 -

Move the layer around a bit until it fills up the brushing and looks nice.

    Step 11 -

Right click on the Floating Pasted Layer and click Anchor Layer.
