How to Increase Computer Speed and Performance.

Hello and welcome to my Guide. Throughout the Guide I will be teaching you how to a few ways on how to overall Increase your Computer's performance.

(All images provided are sourced from Google Imagesâ„¢)

    (Some) Ways of Increasing Performance.

    - Delete Junk.
    - Defragment your Hard Drive.
    - Remove any Spyware, Adware, Viruses, etc.
    - Perform a Disk Cleanup.
    - Add more RAM to your Computer.

    Delete Junk.

    - The title is pretty obvious. What you have to do is delete the Junk from you computer. You have to Uninstall any programs you don't use, delete unwanted pictures, videos, documents etc. You can perform these actions by clicking the 'Start' button, and going to any specified area or location where an unwanted file, program, image, etc. is.

    Defragment your Hard Drive.

    - What Defragmentation refers to is taking your file space and organizing it so the amount of space that is taken up is reduced. When Fragmentation occurs in a file, it is unorganized and cluttered. You can perform Defragmentation by doing..

Windows XP: Click the 'Start' button, and go to My 'Computer'. Right click the C: Drive and go to 'Properties'. From there, go to 'Defragment now', and you're all set.

Windows Vista: Click the 'Start' button, and go to 'All Programs'. From there, click 'Accessories' then to 'System Tools' and finish by clicking 'Disk Fragmenter' and 'Defragment now.'

Remove any Spyware, Adware, Viruses, etc.

    - The title also speaks for itself on this one. Search your files, disks, and Hard Drive for any Viruses, Trojans, Malware, Spyware, etc. Prevent any of these unwanted bugs by ALWAYS scanning your files before you download them, and if you see any 'fishy' files, check them out ASAP. Also, another tip: .exe files are the format in which Viruses are usually found. You can perform a scan by using Window's built-in scanner, or downloading a safe, reliable scanner, that is free or costs money.

    Perform a Disk Cleanup.

    - A Disk Cleanup is a utility that allows you to reduce disk space on a Computer's Hard Drive. It comes with any type of Microsoft Windows. What the utility mainly does is search your Hard Drive for any unnecessary files and removes them, so the space on your Hard Drive is bigger, resulting in better computer performance. You can perform a Disk Cleanup by Clicking 'Start' then 'Programs' then click 'Accessories' Followed by 'System Tools' and finally 'Disk Cleanup'.

Add more RAM to your Computer.

    - RAM is also known as Random-Access Memory. When you use RAM, you are using Data Storage, which slows down your computer depending on the size of a file, document, download, etc. When you add more RAM to your computer, you are increasing your data storage which equivocates to making your data usage smaller, also increasing your computer's speed and performance.

This is quite a long process, so you can get a full tutorial HERE.

How to Increase Computer Speed and Performance.

    All VERY basic info.

I like the guide, but I didn't really learn anything from it.

Thanks for the time you've put into it though.

Maybe you could add names of software that does a better job, or give specific examples of the hardware you can install to optimized preformance.
