    How To Improve Public Speaking!

    Hello Guys,

I'm here to present my guide on how to increase public speaking. Not trying to spam the forum with my link but this is an excerpt from my original guide located here - http://successinlifetips.com/how-to-improve-public-speaking/

Anyways, public speaking can be a problem for a huge amount of people, so here are my tips to improve public speaking.

Step 1 - Expect how your body will react -
This is pretty simple, if you have ever had to present something, you will know how your body will react, whether you get really nervous and start shaking or even if you just can't talk. You need to accept what will happen, and be prepared.

    Step 2 - Know Your Material! -
This goes without saying, but if you don't know your material well enough, you are bound to screw up. So practice your material before hand!

    Step 3 - Breathe Deeply/Slowly -
This can be one of the biggest factors if you normally have trouble when public speaking. When you first start presenting, take a deep breathe, and speak only speak a few words. Then breathe deep and speak a little more. The key is to breathe very deep, and to speak slowly. This will help keep you calm, and not as jittery.

This wraps up my short guide, you can view the rest here - http://successinlifetips.com/how-to-improve-public-speaking/

You can do it, and nail this presentation!

    Tip 4 – Start Off Slow -

When starting your presentation, I also suggest that you start of slow. This helps you to gain control of your body, and get your breathing down. Once you feel calm and confident, start to progressively get faster and faster until your in a normal speaking tone.

    :p

    How To Improve Public Speaking!

Good guide.. I am a debater who has a lot of experience debating in front of large audiences. Honestly, the one tip I can give you, is one that some may find really stupid..

TIP: PINCH YOURSELF BEFORE YOU GET UP TO SPEAK

Before you assume I am trolling, hear me out. Pinching yourself (HARD) makes your body focus on the spot you were pinched and on the pain. This will completely get rid of your jitters and/or butterflies in your stomach. I don't know the science behind it, but my debate coach taught me it and it works amazingly. It also seems to increase your memory and fact recall during a speech.

PS: If you don't believe me still, PM me and I can provide proof of my success in debate and speaking.

I'm sorry, but that's just stupid and really bad advice. No one I know/know of pinches their selves when they are getting ready to speak. Hell, might as well tear off a fingernail while at it...

Think what you want. Seeing as you haven't provided any help to the OP, I don't care what you think. This method works for me and I have had great success in public speaking..

Thanks for being an asshole about something you aren't even going to provide support on.

EDIT: You also have a great deal of grammatical errors in your post. This further affirms my point stating you're an asshole who thinks he knows stuff.

LOL, You're just asking to be banned again, arent you?

I've provided OP help by telling him not to use your emo-tisical advice of "pinching yourself hard" and save himself the unnecessary pain. I suppose jumping off a bridge before anyone speaks in public would also work because it would "rid of you of your jitters and/or butterflies in your stomach" also right?.

Show me real proof, that "your method" works. Either on the internet, or if you have any personal videos of you speaking in public. I would really like to see this. Oh wait...you won't be able to!

Orly? Wana point me to the "grammatical errors" in my post(s) on this thread? Or are you just writing up more bullshit for the sake of it?

    How To Improve Public Speaking!

GRAMMATICAL ERROR: You wrote "pinches their selves". The correct usage of "their selves" should be themselves. People pinch THEMSELVES, not their selves.

Uhm? I showed you your grammatical errors. PM me and I can provide you with proof. If you want I would be more than happy to speak live in a skype call for you or have somebody record my speeches I make for debate. Oh, I forgot that pinching yourself to make your body aware and ready is JUST the same as jumping off a bridge, right? Wrong. You are obviously just trying to compare apples and oranges. You are thinking of these outragious things and calling it "emo-tistical". So then stretching must be emo-tistical in your mind correct? You are stretching your muscles more than their average length to loosen them, just as pinching yourself will loosen your body. Stretching creates a subtle pain, but I'm pretty sure professional athletes aren't emo. Do you think cracking your knuckles is emo-tistical? I could go on forever. Anyway, I'd just like to make it clear that you are providing no addition to the guide. Whether my method "works" in your opinion or not, the point of an open-guide (such as this) is for the reader to get a variety of opinions on a problem/issue. You haven't provided a solution of your own, and therefor I think you are worthless to this thread.

    Thanks,
    Anet390

That's more of a spelling error than a grammatical error, but while we're on the subject--right back at ya buddy:

I don't need to PM you. YOU PM me or post statistical data to back up your ridiculous and ludicrous statement. Talking to me in a Skype call is not even close as to speaking in public, where there is more than 1 person listening and looking at you. Also, I don't know if you're trying to troll, but comparing something like PINCHING YOURSELF UNTIL IT HURTS (thus likely leaving a scar) to stretching is absolutely ridiculous LOL. I'm not sure if you know this, but stretching actually loosens up your muscles. And I don't even know why you brought up cracking your knuckles nor where you got that idea from...

If you say I'm not providing any attention to the guide, then you're not either and should be banned for scamming/misleading someone. Unless you have factual data and credible evidence, gtfo here telling someone they should harm to their body in order to improve in public speaking. Again, I could make up random shit, like tell the OP to jump off a bridge, which doesn't help this thread either. It's like an unlicensed doctor advising a patient that they should take X amount of a medicine.

LOL at the hypocrisy of this statement

Also note that Anet cuts himself and had a thread about it a while back. I wouldn't follow any of his tips, especially if they involve hurting yourself. He may like the pain/attention, but not everyone will.

    How To Improve Public Speaking!

    Sorry but I don't agree with step 1 & 3

It is NEVER a good idea to think about how you will react, or how you reacted in previous situations. This ensures that it will happen during the presentation, while on the other hand, if you just completely forget about how nervous you get, or have gotten in the past, and focus on the actual presentation. Then you'd probably be less nervous

Sure deep breathing before the presentation can help. But during? Imagine saying "Today I am going to talk about cars." then pausing just to take a deep breath in front of everyone and doing this throughout. It would look stupid, and show that you're not confident at all. Your audience would notice this, and you would notice them noticing it, making you even more nervous.

    Step 2 is fine, agreed.
