How to Identify Paypal Gift vs Normal Payment

For people who want to make sure that a buyer is not sending you payment via the normal payment option, this will show you how to know. This method ONLY verifies that the payment was not sent as a purchase of goods (the default payment method). It does not necessarily mean that the payment was sent as a gift, but since payment for goods is the default option, chances are that payment for goods will be the method used if the person forgets or intentionally decides to send the payment normally.


This is how your normal paypal screen looks. Note the order status/actions circled in red.



Now take a look at this. One is sent via gift and the other normal payment. Note the difference in the specified area.





If it does not have the shipping label, it was sent as a gift (shown by the note)





If it was sent as a normal payment, it will have the shipping label.





I hope this helps out anyone who is confused.

Sorry but there are many payment types which do not display shipping info. The only payment type which shows it by default is "Goods".

 

hmmm, going to test out the other methods as well and see if there are other methods to distinguish.

 

I was just wondering, but can people take back their Gift money after sending it to you? If so, how do you make sure this doesn't happen.

 

They can if they call paypal and claim it was unauthorized, or if it is funded by a CC, they can call the company.

To avoid, make sure they dont use a CC funded paypal. But anyone can call paypal and dispute, but gifting just makes it more difficult.

 

i'm a CC paypal user.....i found it hard to trade with ppl as i don't have send as a gift Options
any 1 can help me?even i got blance on my paypal account.....there is still no send as a gift option.....strange
btw.....personal payment(like owing) can't charge back right?because i got scammed before and i can't made a charge back request as i send it as owing

 

Payment owed you cannot charge back on the website, just like gift. And you will need to fund your paypal with a bank if you want the gift option.

There is many people who have something wrong with their paypal, like me. Who can't send as gift, which looks like this:

This happens when you register on Paypal with certain countries, and your PayPal isn't verified.

 

Plznate and I have done further testing, but too no avail.
