How to decide what to play?

I personally own a playstation and computer, both of which i have games on, The thing i find the hardest is to decide what game to play. It's not that i have so many games and unlimited money to buy them but simply that i have a few playstation games and there are so many free and low cost PC games, many of which have a huge amount of gameplay each to master. Some games also require continuous play to stay at the top. So my question is how do you personally choose what game to play and become good at now that there are so many options out there?

usually for me is what gives me the most happiness, so for example owning noobs in cs:go is so fun and trolling them on mic but then again there is league which i can troll without hearing russians all game long. And it is a different way of pwning dem newbs. Just try different game categories and then play the highest rated ones in said category.

I personally have stuck to the same 4-5 games over the course of a decade, any play a few games on the side as they come out.

My recommendation would honestly be to hop onto Twitch and watch a few streamers as they play games that look interesting to you. I like to see gameplay for myself before I go out a purchase a game, and often times review sites and videos are biased, so watching someone play the game first hand is the best way for me to determine whether or not I'll enjoy it or not.

Also, don't feel guilty taking advantage of returns in your area. I know at Gamestop you can return used games within 7 days. Use this to your advantage and test out a few games before you settle on which one is enjoyable for you. Steam also has a return system, something within 2 hours of purchasing, or having under 2 hours of gameplay (You're going to have to research this one a bit more if you end up trying to use it).

Thanks for the reply, I'm always curious though how people can stick to the same games for such a long time as you say you've played the same 4-5 for a decade, what makes you keep coming back to those games? Obviously there has to be enjoyment of the game and the content releases etc however, I find myself enjoying pretty much all of the games I try but of course if I played every game I liked I would never really reach the higher levels of any game and feel the real rewards.

How to decide what to play?

Even though I've shuffled around playing with IRL friends, and other friends I met online, I've pretty much stuck to WoW, League, with some Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2 and RS thrown in there. All of these games, despite being old evolve over time. It feels like there is always something new to do, or new to learn. I like this because I'm still playing the games I'm familiar with, but there's added content that I have to pick up, so the games don't ever truly feel stagnant.

These games also feel different depending on who I'm playing with. Take League for example. With certain friends, we try our best to play at the top of our game, mimicking what the pros do. Take the same game with a different group of friends, or a different mindset, and we queue up into normal games and try to come up with cheesey team compositions.

Same can be said about WoW. On one hand, I can have a Guild with a large community of in-game friends that I've met over the years. We do things ranging from farming achievements to downing heroic raids. I can flip my focus in the game, and then run PvP arenas with IRL friends. Even though it's the same exact game, there are so many things to do to keep it from getting dull.

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy single player games, I'm just not one to go out of my way to pick them up. If you're more of a story-driven single player game type of guy I can understand the dilemma about finding games to play. Even the most well-made games can be explored and completed 100% with a few months of dedication.
