Which of you own motorcycles?

I'm getting into riding this year. I bought my first bike, a grey naked GS 500. I'm fucking pumped for spring to get here so I can take it out.

Any of you own bikes? If so, what do you own?

 

Not worth the risk.

 

Owned a ttr 225 enduro for about 4 years, sold it last fall. Plan on buying a shadow 750 or something similar come summer time.

Rode dirtbikes for years before ever hitting the street.

What year? But cool man, have you ridden before? I had looked into getting a GS500 tbh, but ended up with a temporary ninja 250 starter/project bike which I plan on selling this spring.

I had looked at the GS500's, I really like the streetfighter looker, but I also have really contemplated getting/building a cafe racer.

Nearly half of all motorcycle fatalities involve people above the age over 50.

Around 40% involve alcohol on the motorcyclists behalf (alcohol impairs motorcyclists significantly more than an individual driving a car.)

I'm 20 and I don't drink and drive so hm, my chances are lookin' pretty good bruh. It's not nearly as dangerous as it's perceived to be and if you don't ride above your level you'll in all likelihood be fine.

 

The only risk I see is in a car someone else makes a mistake you're likely still alive where as your chances of survival are reduced in a motorcycle accident, that being said the reason I wouldn't buy a motorcycle is the fact I have 7 months of winter + I love cars.

 

Oh definitely. If involved in an accident, your survival rate in a car is in all likelihood higher due to being surrounded in a steel cage opposed to being out in the open.

Motorcycles are more agile though so there is the opportunity for swerving and laying the bike down. Motorcyclists need to be incredibly vigilant and be sure to be seen.

7 months of winter can be a total turn off, can't blame you there and cars are pretty hype.

 

Even if you're the best motorcyclist in the world, if you're surrounded by terrible drivers then you can still get into an accident. Depends all on those around you.

 

Been riding dirtbikes all my life, I've got a KX 250, runs like a dream but not registered. And I've only just gotten my probationary motorbike license, and picked up a pre-owned Kawaski Ninja 300, beautiful bike.

 

2008. I've never ridden before, signed up for a course that I'm taking end of March, after that I'll have my full license.

Like Jeb Corlis, one of the top base jumpers in the world once said, you can die crossing the street going to buy a muffin.

You can surround yourself in a bubble all you want, life isn't without risk.

I got my M2 and my motorcycle: 2008 Suzuki GS 500. Took it out a few times now, damn it's fun.

 

been really wanting to get a bike this summer. just not sure what I want. dont really want a crotch rocket nor do i want a harley. what would you guys recommend? it's going to be used as just a cruise around town during the summer so i dont have to drive my truck (diesel too expensive these days).

 

Look into the GS500, man. Most people say it's the best starting bike. I love mine.

Checkout some older bikes too. What styles do you like? My GS500 is a naked bike, which means it has no ferings so you can see the engine. Triumph bonevilles are also cool too if you like that classic bike look.

 

yeah i dig the look of that gs500 a lot. not super sporty and not a chopper/harley type thing either.

i've been looking around my local classifieds also, just trying to get the feel of the market and the pricing.

I sold the Ninja I had (made $800 so that's awesome), but I'm looking at getting a bike once I move in August, or perhaps later down the road after I graduate school. Where I'm currently living, getting anywhere is kind of a pain on a bike + the ride isn't nice.

I live in a large city. To have a nice ride i'll need to go early in the morning, late at night, or just ride it out of the city.

 

I used to own a 1999 Honda VT600CX Shadow.

I got rear ended on it 3 years ago. Have not been on a bike since

 

Bit of a gravedig, but my dad stumbled upon a bike sitting in a guys garage today and asked him if he wanted to sell it (they were having a garage sale and the bike was in the garage.)

Long story short, they called me and I bought it.

It's a little rough and has been sitting since 2003, but I got a great deal so yeah.

It's an 83 CB/Nighthawk 650 SC

 

I'm actually interested in getting one myself, but I have no idea what to look into.

Anyone have suggestions? Not looking to spend too much.
