How to become a Runescape Moderator

After contacting multiple moderators and a J-moderator I was able to create this guide based on what they said.

1. Report Accurately - Jagex look for quality rather than quantity. "I only report people when I truly think they have done something bad." (Player Moderator). Staying at Lumbridge reporting people for little things won't get you anywhere.

2. Have a secure account - "Continue to change your password, have a bank pin and change your recoveries every other month and you should be in no troubled of your account being 'hacked'." (Jagex Moderator). Jagex will not even bother reviewing your account if you do not do not do these things. Jagex check if you have been doing these things and also check the number of accounts you own.

3. Play the game - "I never asked to be one. I just became one." (player moderator). Play the game normally, just like all other player moderators did and you will have an equal chance of becoming a mod.

4. Spelling, grammar and punctuation - One of the player moderators I met up with said the following, "I dnt relly report people nymore, i just warn em lol." As you have seen most moderators speak in full English however there are some who don't, proving that it is not always essential to do so, to become a moderator.

5. Your stats - I've seen plenty of level 3 moderators out there, as well as level 130 moderators. They really don't care what level you are.

6. Mutes and 'Blackmarks' - The maximum you can have is 1 expired minor offence on your page to become a moderator, according to one of the player moderators I met up with.

Decent guide, maybe you could go more in depth and I noticed a few errors that could be fixed

 

You could add being friendly, and helpful to the game
Joining Mod clan chats regularly is REALLY helpful if you're trying to become a mod.

Don't a WBM in the chats, just act like a helpful player who wants to have a good time in the clan chat

People bug me on Disc forums, so I am a troll on it.
Been banned a few times, 24hours.

I am now a p-mod for 3 years, I've been banned for RWT before I became P-mod few years ago and got unbanned after a appeal, also I've had some offencive language blackmarks and Still I became P-mod.

Its so random who they ask I think..

Oh one more note to add to my previous post, being active in forums is ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT parts of becoming a mod!

Decent guide.

I know that Jagex fully checks all IPs logged. But does any Mod or previous Mod know their specific stance on...siblings account's being logged on your IP. I wouldn't want other siblings behavior or black marks to hinder my chances.

 

does anyone really want to become a mod? annoying kids ask u questions, your expected to help these annoying people and im shore after a few weeks of being mod you would be sick of people telling you that other people are teasing or swearing at them. are there any perks to being a mod? do u get free membership?

 

You get insider knowledge through the forums. Secret pages sometimes get leaked .

 

It's the same thing with being staff on this forum, some people just like the authority.

 

Hey, Nice job with the guide. It seems to cover the basics and go partially into it! It definitely gets you a good start!

 

It does seem a little basic, the majority of this can be figured out with common sense but I guess it's valid information and it can only help. 5/10.
