How often do you watch/follow the news?

Are you an avid/occasional watcher, or do you not follow or bother to and why?

I'm an occasional watcher, but I am an avid follower, especially on social media. It's nice to know what's happening in the world, and it is a form of entertainment somewhat.

 

I rarely do either. If I do it's almost always when someone around me has the TV on or if they remark about something on the news.

If I had to pin down my reason I'd say it's because I don't enjoy the rapid shift from one topic to another; if I can't focus on it in depth, I'd rather not waste my attention on it.

There was a time when I'd read the paper pretty regularly, but as I've moved to a new apartment and haven't gotten a new subscription yet, I'm basically just going on assuming nothing really new appears on the news; at least not anything the principle of which I can't get out of dozens of different books.

 

if social media counts i guess everday but in terms of actual news outlets maybe once a week?

 

I used to watch it every morning but once I went to university I didn't have a TV so I shifted to only ever reading the news online. I have some news apps installed on my phone so I get push notifications whenever something big happens. It's just something to do I suppose, keep up to date with whatever is happening. One thing I do like doing is having the news on whenever it's late at night and I feel isolated, it helps me feel connected with the rest of the world.

 

Only news I tend to watch is if it is business-related. Every channel is now filled with Trump this and Trump that and it's sickening.

 

I'll say on a daily basis, especially on the radio and tv. I rarely read the newspaper but when I have the chance to, I do. It's good to keep ourselves updated on what's really going on around the world.

I really wish there would be more positive than negative stuff coming from the news, but sadly we can't deny the fact that we live in a crazy world.

 

If I come across it on social media then yes, otherwise not really.

 

Personally, I don't watch what most would consider "The News" as it is on television today because I believe that bias has started to play too much of a role in today's mainstream media. I do however frequent a lot of online only news to stay up to date.

 

I try to read the NYT every morning before I go to work and watch the PBS newshour when I come back.

 

The only news I really see is something that catches my eye on Facebook trending. Other than that I avoid it because most of it is focused on the negative.

I read /r/worldnews every morning when i wake up. and try to read El Mundo at the bar every day on my workbreaks

 

Absolutely, I choose not to give a shit and live life in the moment. If it's going to affect me usually I hear about it one way or another from a friend. Seems to be working for me so far!

 

Mainstream media nowadays ( and has been for a long time now ) might aswell be trivia these days , you never get the full facts and 9 times out of 10 it is useless nonsense for you to ponder and parrot the next day to your colleagues.

Social media is probably the best outlet for me to get all the news I'm curious about, especially on twitter where it shows the most trending topics in the world. Aside from that, I don't really watch TV news anymore because the only time I used to do that is when I was a kid growing up to check the time before I head on the bus. All I watch on the TV nowadays is shows like First Take, Sportscenter, Big Bang Theory, etc. On the topic at hand though, I completely agree that it is nice to be kept up with recent events that partake in our society. Speaking of scary news, I got an alert today that there was an active shooter at the college I attend as well, and thankfully my sister, nor I were there at the time of the occurrence.

 

Well yeah i got the dutch public broadcasting app on my phone and its pretty nice to look on it sometimes to see whats going on in the world etc

 

I read the news everyday in the morning on my way to work or just as I start work.
