Used Car - Yes or No?

I have saved a small amount of money and would like to buy a used car. But everyone dissuades me. They say that it is a lottery. And it is possible that later I will spend a lot more on repairs. Share your experiences. Have you ever bought a used car?

 

Cash cars I could see running into issues later down the line. If you have credit, I would honestly use the cash on a down payment for a good condition used car. I've financed used cars from the dealerships and never ran into any issues.

 

I've only ever bought used cars, just take your time and do your research. Low kms are important, don't get nothing too old (2012 and up would be ideal)

You can try to arrange to have a mechanic look it over (or yourself) before purchase.

 

They use a better word, *certified pre-owned* - I bought car that was worth 16k for 10k through a used car dealership - It had 30k miles on it, I had skipped out on the fools tax (buying a brand new car and then it losing 25% value almost immediately) and I haven't had any issues with it almost 3 years later. Test drive, get someone to check it out and you'll be good.

 

Pick a car that's been served better than well. (check receips, service manual and such)
Depends on what car are you looking to buy, there might be many hiding "common problems", check the model from google and type "common problems" and you can even put milages on the search too.

I have never bought a new car myself, allways second hand one. It's indeed a lottery if you dont know much about cars, so you can get hoaxed pretty easily with the hiding issues/problems or with the price.

 

used car is financially better than brand new (most of time price of brand new goes down once u drive it out of dealership). look at the kilometers and service history, when ur buying a car get someone with you who knows something about cars.

 

Look for a used one that includes a warranty. Or purchase a warranty for your used car.

 

Lottery is not really a good term for buying a used car but it's definitely a risk if you don't know anything about vehicles I would take someone with you if you don't have a lot of vehicle experience to check out things like the engine and you can tell a lot with the oil obviously the inside you'll know yourself

Overall I've heard people get amazing deals with used vehicles and then I've heard people get really screwed

 

Nothing wrong with a used car, the one I have now is used and I've had no problems with it. Just look for reputable dealerships, a good place to look is carvana, they make the process so easy.
