PID standing for Player Identification Digit, is Runescape's way of sorting who does something first. For instance, if two people are trying to pick up the same item at the same time, and they click perfectly simultaneously, PID determines who, in the end receives the item. Another instance where PID is highly valued is in the duel arena. Having PID in a DDS stake can mean everything, this is how PID is determined.
As some of you may know PID in 07 is quite different then it is in EOC. It is not randomized upon login, it is actually determined by a formula (which i found quite odd).
The formula for getting PID is like this: XXX.XXX.A.B.
A = Any number divisible by 8
B = The lowest number possible
Now to have good PID, A can be really high, or really low, as long as it is divisible by 8. B however should be as low as possible to have the best PID. So quite simply, the lower B is, the better your PID will be.
An example of a perfect IP to get pid: 192.168.8.0
Now what if someone with an IP like: 192.168.8.0 were to go against an IP like: 192.168.80.0? Both the third segments of the IP are divisible by 8, and the last numbers are the same. In this case, the better PID is determined by who logged in first.
If your third segment is not divisible by 8, anyone with one that is will automatically have PID over you. However, if you go against someone else who also doesn't have a third segment divisible by 8, the PID will be determined by whoever logged in first once again.
If you don't believe me so be it, I have no personal gain in whether you do or not, just wanted to inform anyone who didn't know. Hope you guys can put this to good use!
