How easy is account recovery?

I know that account recovery is very easy for most accounts. What I'd like to know is the following:

How difficult is it for someone to recover an account that had no email set and used bonds for membership? Let's say a 99 FM HCIM starter account, that the buyer has now had in their possession for 6+ months.

As the person who buys the account will know 3 passwords (including the first one), have first ever email set, 10x more playtime on the account, know full creation date details, membership info (especially if they used their card on the account).

The original owner will only know first ever password, creation date + ISP.

I've heard that these kinds of accounts are increasingly difficult, if not near impossible for the original owner to get back. As they don't have near as much information to enter into a recovery, and creation IP's are now less important as Jagex look at which IP address has had more playtime and been active in recent months.

Can any high up members of the community that are in account sales shine any light on this?

 

I would say the original ip and owner may still have good abilities to recover dependent on how much information they have stored, even if they have changed the bank pin several times jagex are going to know that is the real owner. But also on the upswing of that and simply because of that if you want a ready made account, why not order this from the services section if recovery is something you want to avoid.

but also if you order an account with no email set and you start the ball rolling and start adding cards etc, changing passwords email address and change it round over a few periods and keep all that information you have more relative facts that the OO

 

Answer to your question is it's really easy for them to do so. Be careful when buying an account - do your research who you are trading with.

It's not nearly as easy to recover but still possible. I think if they tried to recover from the exact same IP they used to create the account with creation date and first PW, it's likely near enough. Additionally, they could have used information mentioned about like creating and removing bank pins and using that as additional info.

 

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I'm thinking lets say someone who sold 500+ accounts that were all like ironmen starters with 99 fm, no email set, all they knew for each account was first password, creation date, date bond was applied and ISP.

Over 6-12 months, once the account has had other persons membership attached, 3-5 passwords, email set, etc. all on there. Technically the only thing that the OO would know that the other person wouldn't is the ISP (if they lie about it). So surely the person who has had the account for a year has a better chance of recovery at that point, with the way the recovery system currently works?

If that person decided to scam quit, could they take back 500 accounts? Lol.

 

The scam quitter would probably try to get the accounts back, maybe get some back. However if you plan on buying an account regardless why not pay for services, yes you may more but your account is more secure.

 

Not really. The original owner will still have an advantage regardless. Best case scenario for the buyer(if the original owner attempts to scam), is both parties attempt to recover the account back and forth that the account gets locked frequently. I really don't see a scenario where the buyer gets a hold of the account and the original owner doesn't.

 

An account recovery is far too easy, the original owner can essentially recover the account anytime they want to, so I personally recommend buying from really trusted sources. (Keep in mind some trusted sources also buy accounts from other users which can result in a recovery and you losing all the items in the account, even if they do offer lifetime refunds on the purchase in case it does get recovered)

in my honest opinion, as long as the original owner actually has intentions on getting the acc back, he will get it back.

I have tested an account recently, and all I put was the creation ISP/Location and got it recovered.

 

The Original Owner will always win a recovery, Its coming from the Creation IP, and they KNOW every little detail about account, like there adress/zip/city/state ect... The best/safest way to purchase an account is from a Trusted OO.

 

Based on my experience, it depends on different factors but one rule I would say to keep in mind is that no matter who you buy from there is always a risk even if it is a small risk(Trusted Members) that will always be there no matter what.

If you can live with that than buy one from a trusted member, otherwise use that hard earned cash for services or better yet grind yourself and keep it.

 

Hi 2277. The question you’ve asked is a very specific one, but I’ll try to answer with my own experience. Over time, reports are handled by different Jagex moderators (as a result of ended tenure or new team addition) and with that, different opinions and decisions can be made. I recovered an old account of mines recently with the same information I provided a year ago and it was approved after being denied for 2 years in a row. This was a med level account, nothing really special about it. I believe the criteria for ownership proof has changed from solely being focused on the creation IP to account activity under a duration of time, as well as other information such as (display names and orders of which 99s the account has gotten). General proof that only the original owner or a long-standing possessor of the account can provide. This isn’t a requirement but it helps with account recovery. Hope that helps you somewhat.

 

With a bit of effort and time the original owner will always be able to recover accounts. If you're looking to buy an account i'd suggest IN-HOUSE built accounts via trusted websites and service providers. There's too much risk involved to be dealing with strangers.

 

Way too easy, avoid it. As previously mentioned, even trusted sellers can mess up by selling you pre-bought accounts to begin with.
