Need video card advice for my new build.

Hey all, I recently built myself a new computer. Specs are as follows:

3.4 i7 2600k (not overclocked yet, looking to get past 4.5 when i get a video card installed)
    h70 corsair liquid cooling
    8 gigs ddr3 g2 patriot ram (2x4 , dual channel)
    asus p67 sabertooth motherboard
    sentey arvina full tower case
    7200 rpm 1tb hdd
    lg dvd burner
    750w hx series corsair psu

so, with this said, the computer is built and im without a video card. im looking to spend a maxium of 400$. should i go sli? should i go crossfire? or should i just get a single card? what does sythe think? ive heard that sli and crossfire is a better bang for your buck. can someone please point me in the right direction?

I'm personally a nVidia fan, so I would say go nVidia SLI. I'm currently running dual GTX 480's right now, but one of those will run you about what you're looking to spend. I personally would say shop around for a couple nice nVidia cards within your price range. Newegg, eBay, etc.

Edit: After looking through newegg a bit, you could probably get a couple GTX 460's maybe even 470's for a decent price. Like I said though. Take the time to shop around and you'll find something :)

would it be a better idea to get one 560 or two 470s?

    I'd go for something ATI.

If it was me, i'd be running two 6870's or something like that.

Get two GTX560 Ti's, and SLI them. That's the best price you can get for FPS per dollar, in my opinion.

I've never had any high-end cards, and I have always had an ATI card. I've decided not to use too much money on the card because I mostly play older games.

If you play old games(eg. half-life 1 engine games), I wouldn't recommend an ATI card for you. There's some issues with the newer cards, and they're performing more poorly than what I would expect. On the other hand, I've heard that NVIDIA cards don't really have these same problems.

With new games, the two manufacturers are fairly equal. I'd recommend going for multiple medium-high end cards instead of a single expensive very high-end card, if your PSU can handle it.
