How do pardons work?

What are they for? I've red a few in the last few days, some are posted on some not? Do staff only post on them if they were involved in the ban of that person? What constitutes a pardon? I read that they have 7 days only. What happens if after 7 days they remain un-posted on, do they get another chance?

Just curious as I saw all these restitution and pardon threads, like a good bunch in the last few days. Not really sure what comprises of either.

Restitution = Appeal for any unwarranted ban and is generally hanled by administrators although all staff put in input.

Pardon = Appeal for forgiveness in regards to a warranted ban. Staff are not required to post on these and pardons are given in fairly rare circumstances when reform is shown and the user is deemed a value to the community.

There are two stages of pardons. Stage one is visible to regular users-- it is the thread that you see in the dispute forum, etc. You need to have 5 staff members to support that thread being voted on by the global moderators. If a supermajority (60%) of such votes yes, then the user is unbanned.

You do not need to be involved with a user to vote but do need to be staff.

 

So staff can chose to not vote. What happens after the 7 days time frame? Does it just remain or it gets automatically declined?

What happens if a pardon gets like 5 supports, but 6 no-supports?

 

It gets declined after the 7 day mark. I also think those who have higher authority, their support is valued more. I could be wrong so in that case, it would depend on them to allow back or not. Its also rare to see 11 supports btw.

 

O. So is 5 the max allowed? Or just generally not many staff care/post on pardons?

 

5 is not the max allowed but least accepted before the unbanning is considered removed. When a staff does not post, it is deemed, he/she does not support. It's not because he/she doesn't care, at least I hope not haha.

It's declined if it does not have any support in 7 days. There is no "vote" on the first level. Just support. So if, giving an absurd example, 20 of our staff say no and 5 say yes it will still elevate to level two.
