How do I receive email notifications to my phone?

Basically a few people I know get free notifications sent to their phone via text message whenever they get an email, but they can't remember how they set it up.

I've googled for a bit and have come up empty.

From my googling it appears it is limited to certain email domains, but that is no worry as I am happy to sign up for them.

If no one has the answer to this, do you know a gadget/program that is win 7 compatible that will show when I receive an email? (like a pop up or something) - My microsoft outlook's trial expired.

You could always try to port forward to the "e-mail" where you send/receive texts from. In other words, text your e-mail address then forward all incoming e-mails to that address.

Just set it to forward emails to yournumber@(carrier specific gateway)

A list of carrier gateways can be found here - GATEWAYS

So for example say my phone number was (555)123-4567 and my carrier was ATT, I would set it up to forward emails to

    [email protected]

Using GMail I think you can find the forward option under settings I believe.

That or if you get an iphone it vibrates/plays a tone everytime you get an email and I am sure there is something similar with android phones.

How do I set up the port forward? Do you send an email from the email address to that address "[email protected]"?

Are you sure it's completely free? There are tons of ways to get your e-mail on your phone but they all require an internet signal (wifi doesn't work everywhere and I assume you want it everywhere) which costs money.
