How did wow ever get famous?

It is probably the most stupid game I've ever played I wasted 20 bucks on it the other day wasted a good 3-4 hours updating everything play it for 10 minutes and realise this game sucks. you get like 5 characters to choose from minimal alterations to seperate you from the masses. Spells are all boring. the way they have their mellee abillities setup is just stupid. and I could go on forever and ever.

 

In all honesty, I have asked myself the same thing. I played it for a little while one day and then I just couldn't stand it. It is just, plain and simple, "Boring" to me. I'm not going to go around spreading rumors and run my mouth about why I don't like it though, unless someone asks me if I like it, then I will gladly tell them. ^_^

 

Because not everyone finds it boring like you so they continue to play and reccommend it to everyone they know. Then they reccommended it, and so on and so forth. It is basically the snowball effect. I personally have never tried it and probably never will, I really only play FPS's now.

 

Advertising+ex-famous people/famous people doing the advertising.

 

I didn't find the game too appealing either. Their advertising strategies, however, are quite clever in including some well-known celebrities and ex-celebrities in said ads.

 

The game has been around since 04 Blizzard Entertainment has been around since 1994 They had several games before worldofwarcraft so majority of fans of there old games played worldofwarcraft and liked it.
I didn't start playing worldofwarcraft because of there celebrity advertisements I played/play it because I enjoy the game.

 

Diablo 1.. Diablo 2.. Diablo 3 in the making..

Warcraft.. Warcraft 2.. Warcraft2 battle.net edition Warcraft 3/Frozen throne..

Star Craft/Brood war/Star craft 2 in the making

WoW/Many expacs

AND ALOT of games prior to the ones I listed..


Face it they are a gaming corporation juggernaut..

Once Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 hit the stores, kids will go bonkers, a lot might go towards D3 over WoW, time will tell..

Eh my bro plays, so I just used his account to make a char or w/e? No money wasted, but maybe a good 40 mins I'll never get back.

 

Keep the opinions to yourself. A lot of people aren't fans of MMORPGs like this. People have unique interests in what kind of games they like in what style, mode and gameplay.

In most games, the first part of the game is boring when you're just starting out. If you haven't, It's recommendable watching YouTube videos of gameplay on games you check out before actually trying them out.

Also that the WoW has a TRIAL which means, if some of you don't know, TRY IT BEFORE PAYING =]

 

This is an open thread based on how it became famous, opinions are bound to happen, and thus did. Here in America we have the right of free speech.

I think it sucks, and my opinion means nothing because others have different opinions.. Just MY thought, and I like reflecting opinions with one another.

And I have seen game play from youtube, and other forums.
I also have watched my brother play in real life a few times
Just not a giant fan, but those who do like it and play it, more power to you.

 

its from one of the worlds leading gaming companies that brought the gaming world, diablo, diablo 2, warcraft, and starcraft. so the only compatition at the time was pretty much Everquest (sony) and maybe 3 other MMORPG's that where large.

PLUS look at all the advertisements on the television, they have people like william shattner, that one nigger with all the jewelery, and dave chappelle.

and moutain dew, and movies like "Zombieland" even picked up on the game. so when the mass media picks it up WTF do you thinks gonna happen? plus if you have a good game you get thousands of fans... comeon man common fucking sense.

 

I kinda like it how everyone in this thread that is hating on WoW has admitted to not trying the game.

Really, you haven't; the starting areas are dull and boring. You experience ALL of the content at higher levels, so get off your high horse and stop bashing something you haven't played. >:|

 

I liked diablo played it from when it came out til diablo 2 came in and I got addicted I still play diablo 2

I think people missunderstood my question I'm asking why the people who do enjoy it do like what they think makes it a good game I personally couldn't find any aspect I liked so I'm wondering if I was missing something.

This is a forum it's about debating and discussing opinions. well I already knew this but a friend of mine kind of pressured me into it because he is obsessed with it and I listened to the hype now I'm out 20 bucks and some time wasted it's not that big of a deal I'd just like to possiby get into the game.

 

Not going too lie alot of people quit the game really earlier because the "low-level areas" are like ghost-towns,and it seems dull but once you get into the later content aka the latest expansion then you'll start seeing the fun in worldofwarcraft,I think worldofwarcraft became famous because of all the other games blizzard had I mean if you liked blizzard's other games before worldofwarcraft why not try this one?

 

Opinions aside for a moment..

Ok , WoW got such a big following mainly due to its huge following form the previous warcraft game ( especially from warcraft 3 ) and from a game you guys might have forgotten about... Everquest.

The majority of Everquest players rerolled to WoW when it came out and we all have to remember that Everquest was a huge game.

The advert's using people like Mr.T and such didn't make a huge difference as the vast majority ( over 5 million) of the player already had accounts.

That is how wow for famous.

 

to be honest, the trial of the game got me straight into it. being an ex runescape player the graphics amazed me this was a month after the game had hit shelves and i was stunned. the people were generally more nicer that on RS and team work and friendships were made on the way to level10. at level 10 i decided to make a new dwarf hunter and level him to 10, after doing so i got the game and then all 3 expansions when they came out. atm im an 80 hunter geared with 232-245 gear and am waiting for my account to get recovered WoW does hook u really well,but so does runescape. mmorpgs just dont do the same thing as they use to for me at least. I was a juvenile when i played these games so maybe im a bit sick of a grind fest

 

and if you want to get in the game,get refer a friend,your best mate and ventrillo or skype or some sort of voice communication homephone w/e and just do team work reroll a toon that helps your friend tank/healer or pull of combos as rogue/rogue hunter/hunter stuff like that. try all toons too,taurens got me hooked to it but they were to bulky and slow so i re rolled a dwarf
