High Latency/Ping? Read here! Cut your latency in half!

So....there's a little thing going round the internet now called "Faster Ping". Basically, what it does is it disable the confirmation of sending TCP packets, thus speeding up the transfer of the packets and lowering your latency. PERFECT FOR WOW!

Just run it, do what it says and then reboot. It got me from 500ms+ down to 250ms.

If I had ping troubles, I'd bother to do this but as it's usually always below 100ms I won't bother. However, for people in other countries that play on US realms (such as Finn or Verts) I can imagine this would be a great help.

I had some suspicion over whether it would do anything nasty to anything else that needed the authentication but we'll see, won't we?

 

Wow thank i'll definitely give it a go. I have terrible FPS too... Idk how to lower this, i have the lowest possible graphic settings.

 

You don't want to LOWER your FPS you want to RAISE them. I stick around 60 FPS with just regular settings in windowed mode. Get a new graphics card and you should see an improvement.

 

Yeah , stick in some new fast RaM + a new graphics card and your set.
My graphics card is about 3-4 years old and i run wow on high settings with 50+ fps in org so you dont even need to be spending like£200 on one.

 

What would be considered an average latency? and a high one?

 

Anywhere from 25MS to 125MS is acceptable, with 150MS+ being something you want to fix.

 

What will decreased latency do for me?


Lag wise, atleast.

As Tgump said, it makes you suck less.

It also allows you to have better response times in raids and such. For example, a person with 100ms ping will be (correct me if I'm wrong) 0.1 seconds behind the 8-ball while a person with 500ms ping will be 0.5 seconds behind. That's a pretty large amount for split-second decisions if you're making your decisions half a second behind what's actually happening on the servers.

Would need my ping down in Gmod
(Its usually around 100 but sometimes goes to like 300 :S)

E: It said for WoW and other multiplayer games so i guess it'll work

My latency is 146, if I use this will it still go down? Your latency can never be low enough!

 

I used to use this, but I'll be honest this doesn't 'actually' make your ping better, just shows your ping as lower, but the latency you actually feel in game is still the same, so it doesn't really do anything especially if you're someone who has on average 100-150 ping, anything lower is either making differences that are not actually that noticable, or just a lie, but yeah, after playing with and without fasterping for that past 3 or 4 years, I'd say it's pretty much useless.
