What is Courage? - English Essay 800-1200 words. HELP!

hello, i have an english essay due for tommorow, i've been completly out of ideas on this one, as personal/reflective essays just aint' my thing. i just finished reading to kill a mockingbird, and this essay comes on the back of it.

basically, i've to write about someone, anyone, famous or your next door neighbour who has overcome something to achive a goal.

currently, i thought of the idea of writing about general patton who is my favourite war time Hero, and overcame dyslexia and other obstacles to become a great general, who has so many great war time quotes.
just an idea, please help!

 

You could write a comparative essay that compares some of the challenges the characters faced in comparison with the challenges General Patton faced, and how they needed courage, categorized into mental courage/physical courage, to overcome the obstacle. For example, the comparison of Mrs. Dubose's morphine addiction compared to General Patton's battle with dyslexia, and how in this case physical courage was not enough, so mental courage was the case. The outcome was victory as they both overcame their problems, although the victory was in different forms. (Mrs. Dubose died because of this, but she died honourably, free of addiction.) (General Patton lived on because of this, etc.)

You get the point, you can also make comparisons with characters such as Scout having physical courage and lacking mental courage, and Atticus having tremendous mental courage. I don't know the biography of General Patton but I'm sure the events these characters have lived through and the mental/physical courage needed can be compared to similar things General Patton has experienced.

 

I know someone who had that question in his A level exam......He wrote "this is courage" and walked out of the exam hall.

omg if only i was on this site like 8 months ago.

my teacher told me she had the same essay. what she did was get a stack of blank papers and handed them in. on the last page it said "this is courage"
