(Help) Building new custom PC, want to buy this weekend

    Hi again guys,

So a bit of background: I've been looking at buying a new PC on and off for the last year, and I figured today that I could actually take advantage of the weekend's sales to get a great price. Only problem is: I have zero experience building PCs, and barely know what to look for. My primary reason for buying one is that you can get amazing quality for your money and I've had some terrible experiences with Dell.

Can you guys suggest a build within my budget (~£1,500 after discounts, so maybe £3,000 before discounts) and a trusted way or place to have it built and shipped to me? I live in the UK at the moment. A member from this forum already helped me out a bit but I still need to look in other places and find a way to get it built.

Last thing: I wouldn't be overclocking since I don't know how :p, primary uses for the computer would be medium graphics quality gaming (stuff like LoL) but I'd like to have the capability to run anything.

    Would greatly appreciate any help!

Quick update: if I don't manage to find a good deal by building custom, I'll probably end up buying something like this:

    http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/-b-NEW-b-Savage-5820K-94p2237.htm

Thoughts on the linked one, anyone?

I dont know personally of any places that you can choose parts and have them build it for you.

If you want to save some money i'd purchase the parts and build it yourself, if you feel like thats not an option, buy the dinopc.

It's a perfectly good, actually extremely good build at an ok (can be much cheaper especially if built at home) price.

The pc part picker build is also very good but you'd have to build that yourself...

for much cheaper i'd choose this: http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/ROG-Reaper-GTX-780-Ti-89p2212.htm

The SSD is smaller but you should only install the OS on the SSD.

the build you have linked is actually a very sweet build. quite pricy, but on the flipside you are dealing with the new LGA 2011-v3 hardware(x99 platform) which includes the new 6 and 8-core processors as well as DDR4 RAM. These new processors can utilize a full 40 lanes of PCI-E bandwidth, which means that basically you could run quad SLI with these processors and GUARANTEE that the CPU will never bottleneck it. Quite impressive hardware, this new x99 platform. I'm making the change myself, but I only want pre-binned parts...so the CPU will take me some time to find. (I paid an extra $70 for my current pre-binned I7...but worth it for me)

If you're willing to spend that sort of money, that's a great build. I do, however, suggest that you look into buying the parts in the OP build and build it yourself. While you won't save a fortune, you'll save some. Otherwise, build a similar top-end setup on a Z97 platform(LGA1150) and your gaming performance will be just exactly the same. In all essence, X99 is currently just a bragging and benchmarking platform right now. Unless you're running triple/quad-SLI, you won't see the difference to Z97.

Z97 will have a long life due to it's confirmed compatibility with next-Gen Broadwell CPU's. Once those come out, X99 will be old tech again. Choice is pretty much yours.

After re-reading your thread, you REALLY don't need a desktop with that powerful of hardware or grade of hardware. Sounds like you need a decent gaming setup, but not nearly something as badass as you listed.
Build something with an I5 or an AMD FX in it, about 8GB RAM in it, and (if you want to run anything) a GTX 970. Spec the other parts as you see fit for the budget.
Don't be afraid to build it. If you can buy a static discharge strap and ground yourself out...you can safely build a PC with few worries. It's all plug and play. It either works or it doesn't, if it doesn't...try again. The hardest part for most people is applying a heatsink. You gotta set it on there carefully so you don't smudge/improperly apply the thermal paste. A few YouTube videos will have you understanding and comfortable with this.

Otherwise, it's as simple as installing the ram, install the CPU and cooler, install the GPU, install power supply, run 12v power to motherboard, plug in all accessory cables(USB, power buttons, HDD lights, etc) to mobo, run sata cables and power to storage drives, run power to GPU if needed, plug in all fans as needed, plug into the wall, boot, install OS, and get goin'. research, watch vids, and don't be afraid. It sounds much more difficult than it is.

If you have software difficulties, install teamspeak and have someone set it up for you remotely. TeamSpeak is safe for you because people can't just send you files (which could contain viruses) without you approving the transfer. So you could go to a reputable enthusiast website and let a stranger help you with little to worry about. If you don't like whats going on, just disconnect.
I do it all the time, actually helped a girl all the way in north Carolina yesterday with her PC due to software compatibility issues on her graphics-design rig. I don't offer to help people remotely on this forum though due to too many untrustworthy people lurking around... but enthusiast communities like overclock.net/tomshardware/hardocp etc. are full of great people that can give you lots of assistance.

Ah, well, I suppose I wanted more power in case I end up using it for my degree. You can never have too much power... Maybe >_>

Ended up buying everything in here: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/t6R4GX except the motherboard since it's out of stock at the moment. Going to wait for it to come back in stock then order it, because I think it will go well with the color scheme. Thanks for the help guys!

Computerplanet.co.uk if you want to select your parts then have it built for you.

But ofcourse this will be more expensive since they markup the price ALOT.
