Help me with my iPhone video!

I have a new iphone 3 and i want to record some videos with it...I go to the camera option and then I hit the button in the lower right to record video instead of take a picture. When I hit the record button the screen does the little like close thing like it does when taking a picture but just stays there and basically I have to hit home to get out of it...Can anyone help?
