Help getting new hard drive for laptop

Okay so I have a dell m1530 xps laptop and I just bought a brand spanking new 500gb hard drive, I know it's the right one and all because it said it was compatible, but I have to wait around a week to get it =@.

So what I was wondering was: Do I need to upgrade anything else, memory, wireless card or whatever(someone said I needed to do this but the laptop comes with a built in one.)

Also do you recommend a memory upgrade, it's still the factory memory from when I bought it, and if you do recomend: buy from where, and what amount of memory should I get?

    Thanks guys

btw hard drive I bought: http://www.amazon.com/Brand-500GB-Drive-M1210-M1330/dp/B001QWW0LI

Hard drive is fine, you don't need to upgrade your laptop to be honest for a new hard drive. Remember Windows will format it as 465GB.

With the memory, how much do you have currently? At least 4GB is fine.

3.5GB is alright I guess. You probably have 4GB but Windows XP only registers 3.5GB. If your laptop is good enough then you could up to 8GB if you wanted.

Thanks for the info man looked into it. I think I'm just going to save that money for a new computer in a year or two since mine is about 3.5 years old now

You'll have to reinstall Windows on the new hard drive yes. You may be able to get a disk off a friend to borrow while you install it. It can be done without a disk say for example you connect it to a network or something similar.

The easiest way to go is a disk though. If you have one it's pretty easy to install onto your laptop, should take a maximum of half an hour to do.
