My PC build, lmk if I've done something stupid.

Finalized my PC build. I'm not as knowledgeable as many people when it comes to hardware. As far as I know everything should be compatible and not bottleneck.

I put this build together with a few things in mind. Video editing. Creating graphics. Gaming. Coding. Already bought the RAM because it was on sale. Going to go for a blue/black/white build.

Let me ease your mind, you didnt do something stupid. That's actually a very nice build you got there.

 

Do you actively plan on overclocking your build?
Do you ever want to run SLI/Crossfire?

If you are overclocking (assuming you are based off the selections), I'd make sure you're going for a 1070 that has a high range (not sure about the one you selected).

I think you can save a significant amount of money if you change some things around. You can get practically the same mobo, ram, and ssd for significantly less. You do not need a modular PSU for the case and you'd be fine with a semi or non-modular.

I had the newer version of that case and I loved it, you may want to ensure you add some more fans due to the noise isolation. I ran 7 and could hardly hear them.

Ok sweet, thanks! Never built one before. Most I've ever done is trade out RAM and HDD. Do I have enough wattage? That's the main thing I wasn't sure of.

 

You could SLI those 1070s on a 750W PSU, that EVGA isn't the best 750 out there but it's more than decent.

 

750 should be enough overhead for one gpu and ram/cpu being oc'd. Well IMO anyway.

 

Yeah I think I might overclock it part of the time. Supposedly this graphics card makes it easy to do.

I was going to buy your case, was on the verge, but the smaller glass pane got me to switch back. I saw your exact one with custom blue trim instead of black, would buy it in a heartbeat with that. Don't think it's sold though :/

That's another thing I know nothing about...I was just going to go with the fans that the case came with and obviously the CPU fans. Do I need more?

Yeah, I'm spending a fair bit, but I'm definitely not trying to get the very best. Mid to high end range.

I'm honestly not sure what Tmoe meant by 'significantly less', unless he means using different sites/deals or getting a different build all together, or maybe I'm missing something. The cheapest DDR4 2133 ram is like $80 so you'd save like $20, the EVO is already good value unless I missed something recently, sure there are cheaper ones but the EVO is more than a decent buy for the money. Could save a bit on the motherboard as well, especially if you take advantage of rebates and deals, I just saw an MSI krait for $100, that's a pretty good deal but $135 for that asus after rebate is not too shabby. Your biggest cost saver would probably be changing the cooling, those all in one loops look great but cost a pretty penny when air can do the same for much less.

I don't think they sell white ones with blue trim, unfortunately.

You put that H100 in the front, sucking cold air in, which would fill up all the empty spots in your case. Your GPU will suffer slightly because its sucking in the hot air from the H100 but those 1070s don't get hot either way, especially with an aftermarket cooler, so it wouldn't matter too much.

 

I've never overclocked before, was reading something about BIOS and whatnot to enable, but supposedly you can just click a button on your OS now to overclock with some application or other. I don't know much about it to be honest.

Yeah I think I'll buy a few of these parts on eBay new for like $20 discount a piece, but other than that unless I go used then I don't think I can lower my costs much.

Yeah I don't think I'll try anything out of the norm my first time around building it at least. I'm crossing my fingers I can put it together at all.

 

Don't think you'll need to ever do overclocking with this machine, its good enough for almost all games (and at that point you'd want to overclock for a few fps)

 

Buy whatever you can on Jet using their SHOP10 promo code. Waive free returns and pay using a debit card unless your CC has 2% or better cashback. Buy using the ibotta app. You're gonna save a fuuuuckton of money. Like you can get that GPU for under 300 if you do it right.

If you have a microcenter near you buy this and bundle it with a mobo Micro Center - Computers and Electronics

I haven't looked into the compatibility but it looks like a sweet build if you're not as frugal as me. Gl and congrz man!

 

They don't have that GPU at Jet Wonder how the Zotac version compares...

Those deals at microcenter look sick...None anywhere near me unfortunately.

EDIT: Jet looks like they mark it up a good amount and then add a hefty tax. Costs more to buy a lot of these things than Newegg and definitely Ebay. I added the SHOP10 and said that I'd pay with debit and no free return and the Zotac GPU(cheaper brand) cost more than the Gigabyte GPU on ebay. Around $375 :/ I really would like to find some savings though.

Sorry for the late response. I thought I responded and apparently I didn't.

I had not checked the overclocking potential of that gpu and I myself bought a 1070 FTW AC edition so it was factory overclocked. If you're just overclocking to overclock, frankly I don't think you should bother with it. It costs more money, it can be risky, and you're not going to have a problem running anything in your build anyway. Also, if you're not doing significant video editing, you don't need an i7. Your GPU handles nearly all the gaming and $100+ is not worth 1-2 fps

So in relation to the cost breakdown. Lets say you decide not to overclock.
i5 6500 - $180-$205
Stock CPU cooler
16 GB 2133 RAM - $60-80 (I run 8GB myself)
M instead of a Z mobo - $80ish
Could do a smaller PSU for sure (unless you want to run SLI/Crossfire)
You can also get a cheaper SSD. I myself have two 480GB PNY SSD's which I picked up for $200 total.

Even if you do decide to overclock, you can get deals that'll cut prices down. For example I picked up this mobo and a free mouse for $82 at checkout: MSI Z170-A PRO LGA 1151 Intel Z170 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard - Newegg.com in April. You can also definitely get cheaper RAM.

I loved that case, but I sold that build to do a new micro itx build and I love that more tbh. Cases are just preference and if you like that case, go with it!

The fans in the case should be plenty sufficient, but I just like being on the safe side + with a case with little sound anyway it doesn't matter. Just make sure you have enough fan hookups.

Yeah I probably won't overclock my GPU, question is the framerates I get on my favorite games without it.

I want to start a YouTube channel for funzies. I already have the i7-3770 in my pc, which is rated about equal with the i5-6500 and I don't feel like it's up to par...

CPU cooler I chose is half to keep have some reassurance that my CPU is going to last and then also it has RGB LED and looks cool otherwise. Also I found a Newegg refurb on the cooler for $30 less, think that's a bad idea?

Definitely have no idea about the PSU...saw this on in a video and figured it was enough power. I don't really plan to do SLI. With my build about how much power do I need? This one I chose is $60 for 750W, semi-modular.

I think I'll get a cheaper SSD for my secondary, but I've heard some amazing reviews for the 850 EVO. And it seems to benchmark much higher than SSDs of the same price.

Switching my Mobo for yours since I don't think I'll ever SLI 1070s, good call. $75.

Think I'll go with my case, minimalistic/slick is my style. I really like your set up. It's pretty sick.

As it stands now the Pc will cost me around $1,200.

 

You mention framerates. Are you shooting for 1440p/4k or 144fps? What kind of games?
