    buying rares?

Every holiday players can get around 10 rares by doing clues.

They're basically worthless. The value is decreasing every year.

They're probably not going to be the best investment, no. Unlike when they were dropped in Classic, people are keeping them because of their value on RS3 thinking they'll be just as profitable.

If they never gave them out again, then *maybe* in 3-5 years (if 07 is even around then) they could be worth something. However, I have a hunch Jagex fully intends to have these items not be the cash hordes that they are in RS3 - meaning they probably won't give second thought to dropping them every so often/on holidays.

A better investment idea might be resources that are commonly botted, such as ores. If the number of usable bots goes down, or the rate of banning keeps going up, then these items will increase in value as the supply goes down.

    ...just a thought

    100% worthless.

They're going to be dropped every event they have, Jagex have confirmed that "Rares" will never become rare.

Yeah. People are hoarding rares thinking the value will go up.

What they don't realize is that every other OSRS player is doing the exact same thing.

    buying rares?

Items like partyhats and santas will never go rare again due to Jagex constantly dropping them for holidays. Tons of inexperienced players are stockpiling them thinking that one day they will be worth something when they won't. Items that are less common such as gnome scarves and cavaliers will be more likely to go rare than the rares on RS3.

    buying rares?

I wouldn't bother investing over a long period of time (hoarding them) But something I have noticed is after the events where they're given away they drop ALOT. A few weeks or so after they usually atleast double in price before dropping again. But like I said, I wouldn't invest over a long period of time.

    buying rares?

If you have enough money to buy thousands, then you could probably cause a price change. I'm talking 20k-30k sets. other then that, i don't think they'd go up much.

Without the grand exchange it'd be impossible for one person to permanently (or even temporarily) affect the market.

    buying rares?

Personally, I think 07 rares will be worthless for a long time (if not forever). Everyone is hoping that they will rise and are keeping it in the bank incase - but since everyone expects that, I believe it will just stay low in the long run.
