    Hello everybody

    Hello

So basicly i'm starting my last year now, before going to college. For college I will need a new laptop,
and I don't really know very well what kind of laptops are good.

The thing is now, my dad bought a laptop for me that was on fast sale at a shop. The laptop is a ASUS with a

    - AMD A4-3300M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.90 GHz processor
    - 4 GB Ram
    - 64 BIT
    - 17 inch

Now the thing is he bought it for 199 euros, but when I asked my friend who is
good with computer if this laptop is any good, he said
it will basicly not be good enough and it will work like shit if I would use this for school.

Now i don't want to dissapoint my dad by going to him and saying it and being ungrateful.

What should i do? Wait till i finish this year and than talk to him about it being a bad laptop,
and that I need a beter one for school? ( I will work and pay it myself ofcourse ).
And is this laptop any good? What kind of stuff could i run on here.

It feels like 199 euro's thrown away in the trash can. And I think he won't be able to bring it back anyway.
How much could i get for it if i try to resell it on ebay or something?

    Hello everybody

It's not a bad laptop for overall school work. If you're typing essays and making power points, it's usable.

Movie watching, game playing, etc, you may get a bit annoyed with the lack of processor speed but if you're doing general school work you'll be fine.

    Hello everybody

So, are you looking to buy another processor for your laptop, or are you going to buy a completely different laptop? If you could provide me with a price range, I will be able to help you out.

    Hello everybody

It's comparable to my laptop. It would be fine for most things (Boxur, I can play Skyrim on medium graphics w/o lagg) - Movies & games are fine as long as you don't put the graphics up to max and expect the game to run smoothly.

In terms of photoshop you will be fine unless you are working with a piece with a really large resolution and then it may lagg a bit (not an issue)

For 3ds max however, when you try to render your creation it will take ages to be rendered. You may want to look at a mac instead if you are going to be using 3ds max a lot.

    Hello everybody

I would say make due with what you have. My laptop is rubbish and I would have been happy even for that upgrade.

But back on topic: Tell your dad how you feel about it. Be honest with him but tell him you will use it until you can afford something better. I had to do this when my dad bought me beats and I already had a really decent headset. I am not much of a music listener so I was a "tad" disappointed that I would probably never use them. I told him exactly how I felt and he was not upset. He just told me to pick something else and to send the headset back to him. Maybe your father will be similar to mine. Mine appreciated my honesty.

Best of luck with whatever you choose to do. :D

    Hello everybody

I would say this would make a pretty decent laptop for college, but if you plan on using 3ds max it will work. But you may get annoyed. Rendering will take awhile. But like Kaytlin said just talk to your dad and hope he understands.

    Hello everybody

Thanks for the answers, and I actually am really gratefull for this laptop, because until college this is perfectly good for me. So I won't say anything to my dad until I finish this schoolyear.

    Hello everybody

Well in my opinion you should first try it out and then go ahead and try re-selling it (in the case its bad). There are exceptional cases in which a friend tells you its a bad computer, just because they want to have a better one that yours - This might be one of those cases.

Many computer geeks think they know it absolutely all and just throw you some bullshit to pretend that they know

A good way to check if its indeed a good computer is to compare prices with a decent computer

I hope this helps you and if not just tell your dad what you heard from a friend, tell him it in a friendly way, might even end up in a laugh as he possibly didnt know it was a bad computer (if it was) - Or that you needed a great one.
