To those of you who have picked up Hearthstone, what do you think of card purchases?

Will Hearthstone have as much of a buyables market as League of Legends? Maybe more because its buyables actually can help you win games?

Have you bought any cards? Do you intend to buy some (or more)?

Personally, I'm trying to steer clear of buying any at all. Possibly buying a bunch and not even getting any good cards is a huge deterrent, plus it ain't cheap..

This game, card purchases are a must-have. It's completely pay to win at the moment, as even though you can attain booster packs by playing regularly, it would take months of play to earn enough gold to round out a solid deck. Blizzard has made it clear that HS will follow in the same style as other TCG staples like Magic: The Gathering.

What I'm hoping for from a merchant's perspective is that there will be a market for Hearthstone cards buying/selling but knowing Blizzard they will probably develop their own marketplace if they choose to offer a barter system to the community.

With that said, the game CAN be played casually for those who do not care for competitive play at all or are content with what they have available to them.

I've personally gotten to masters 2 with only dropping an initial $10 on packs. That being said, I watched a shit ton of streams and got pretty good at the game, so I've earned a lot of free packs in arena. It's definitely possible to not pay at all if you're decent at arena, if you can average 5-6 wins you can easily never run out of gold if you complete the daily quests. Most good decks don't require legendaries, and there are some really good decks that only use commons and a couple rares. Currently, the game isn't very p2w because there aren't many cards in the game. You can easily get the 50 or so cards you need for most decks, because there aren't many choices out of the top cards. A year down the line when there are 600+ cards it may be a different story, but it's a pretty good f2p game if you don't spend money.

Wow, nice.. I haven't played nearly enough to get to that point - I think I'm in Gold something right now with two or three losses. I have no idea how to build a deck, though, because I still haven't really gotten too into the game - I need to look into what's best for my playstyle.

I bought 2 packs because they were offering a promotion if you buy it, the decks I bought didn't really help me but I could see how spending couple hundred would put people ahead, I know someone in my guild on WoW who has all rare+ cards and a bunch of legendary cards in his deck at the moment but he's spent like $300 on it or close to it. The game is basically pay to win and it's going to be really hard to beat people if you don't plan on spending money.

Yeah, I'll stick to LoL myself as the main game I play because I can't afford pay to win (and probably wouldn't buy in anyway). The free side of things is still fun, though :)
