    "trimming rune for free"

some other lame classic scams... that were circulating around in my day back in ~2006
    - "playing trust game will double your money start with 10k"
    - "selling muddy key 1.2m" you would do this where the discontinued rares were sold hoping that those little rare merchants wouldn't know what it is and buy it thinking that its rare. althought it was just an item nobody knew about which was worthless
    - you and your friend would stand in varrock west bank together on opposite sides of the bank, your friend would say "buying g maul 1.6m" (or some other and on the other side you would say "selling g maul 1.1m" and people would buy it off you to try and make a quick buck hahah.
    - the "i'm going to offer a nice sum of cash for your item but keep on adding lots of junk so you don't notice that ive actually changed the cash stack from 11m to 1m" scam
    - the giant mole scam/lure
    - the i'm quitting rs and my account has nothing on it but you can have it. (just transfer some goddamn items on it sooner rather than later so i can recover it back and be rich)
    - or how about "i saw you post on the forums trying to sell your rares... but i'm lost near the monastery by barb village.. by the sheep.. just come and find me". next minute you find ourself in the wildy and dead without your rares anymore. true story that happened to me once lol
    - "drop party in the wild!! just make sure u bring ur stuff too!!"

what were some other lame scams you encountered that now make you laugh?

note: i do not endorse scamming and this thread is not intended as a discussion on how to scam on runescape. just a nostalgic thread on a funny aspect of the game. clearly falling for any of these would make you a fool.

    Two people would work together by doing the following;
Player A: Would sell an item( WHIP) for 1.7M.
Player B (Player A's friend): Would say 'Buying whip for 3M'.

Subsequently conning the victim into purchasing the whip for a ridiculous price, at the time, and making huge profit

The best one has got to be where you get someone to follow you into the wild, you skull and then you swap with your mate (he stands under you and you log), wait for him to attack you and then he's skulled and you get the drop. Used to work a trick.

Ok man, me and my friend used to scam every now and then lol >.< We were lil kids.

We were at world 2 fally park buying full zammy or saradomin xD

First we'd put up 4444k and then quickly switch to 444k, accept & pray! xD If the other guy declined we'd always run away lmfao. Only worked once though >.<

I always scammed with autotyper. It looked like this:
I put in 1500k, quickly change it with autotyper to 15004 and accept!

Worked a lot lol, especially when the other person tried to scam me. Which was always the case with full sara, they changed the sara platelegs to normale rune platelegs.

I used to be like "Hey that's some nice trimmed rune armor! Wanna know how to duplicate it?" I'd bring them to a quiet area and tell them to drop it and type alt + F4.. It worked a lot actually lol

I used to go to UK worlds and get someone with full dragon or some rares, And then tell them to come to a german world, Back in the day you used to have to change the language and you'd get your own worlds, Then i used to tele other them to the wildy, And because they can't read german they'd click accept and have all my mates waiting and then bang, Thankyou :D! Good one i think.

Never fell for a scam. The most common one I encountered was changing the money pile in the trade screen to make it look like a 'K'.

If staking's involved then there were loads of simple things people did in order to try and trick their opponent.

    - Move on stakes, you could Xlog if you were not hit for 10seconds.
    - Obs stakes, you could glitch your position to never get hit.

All those 'scams'/bugs were fixed pretty soon though.

You'd say "Free stuff, show inventory for free space" then they trade you their invent, and you give them a bunch of an item that would sum up to less than what they had in their inventory.

The "bidding" scam, where players pretended to auction an expensive item and then accepted bids from players. It was small amounts like 10k, but it was still quite a bit at the time.

    I only got scammed once.
It was with limestone.. for a limited time you could kill somebody with it.
Basicly you get a guy low on health in a POH, you kick him out, you let him melt the brick (in the thought you'll win something and placed in a competition) and then the brick exploded. BOOM DEAD.

I lost a yellow partyhat in that.. Only time they ever had me.
