HDMI Monitor / Non HDMI monitor question

If I have a DVI outlet on my monitor, is it possible to get a dvi to hdmi converter cable and hook that up from the monitor to my video card?

Or should I just buy a hdmi monitor?

You're not going to see any picture difference. The 'ONLY' difference is convenience.

Well the video card in the computer I bought he said it's an HD video card, it's the R6670 Core Edition Graphics Card: 1GB Memory

he said that if I dont have an HD monitor, and try to play games, they won't run right? what's the deal with this and is it true?

He told you something truly unnecessary. If you've got a flat screen 720 or 1080 supported resolution monitor then it's HD.. Which is pretty much every single monitor out now for the past 15 years.. Standard Def is 640x480 resolution.

Even then you could still use that card on some crappy 20 yr old CRT that supports 640x480 only.

DVI is the same quality as HDMI. Your card will almost certainly have a DVI port. If it doesn't just buy a converter. It won't affect quality at all.

So just plug the DVI cord from the video card to the monitor?

Yeah, adapters exist for that. But you're honestly not gonna see any difference, I have a HD monitor that uses DVI and it looks pretty much 1080p to me. You can grab an adapter for around £5 - £15 but again you're fine with DVI. (DVI is more higher quality than VGA by the way).

DVI is the exact same thing as HDMI except HDMI handles audio and video.

Why would you want an HDMI port on your monitor? The only reason would be if you needed both video AND audio.
I assume you only want video.
They both have the same quality of video.
