So, we are the most surveilled state through CCTV, and we've also experienced some pretty wide censorship with the banning of torrent, streaming and ebook sites. This is all accepted information.

What finally made me accept that we are undoubtedly reaching 1984-esque government surveillance is Amber Rudd: viewers of online terrorist material face 15 years in jail. I encourage you to read the article, but a few snippets:

Needless to say, before anyone tries to claim this is a slippery slope fallacy, we are undoubtedly heading closer and closer to full internet censorship. I think it is only a matter of time before we see a ban on Tor, VPNs, proxies and encryption. Rudd has already stated that it's unacceptable end-to-end encryption is so mainstream (paraphrased, implied) and was backed by the Home Office in saying that terrorists are the only real beneficiaries of end-to-end encryption.

Before @Sythe comes here and calls me a cuck, I'd like to see what others think about this.
