What should I do with this PC?

I have an extra desktop running Ubuntu that I don't use. I figured I could use it as either a botting computer, or maybe set it up as some sort of server for rent. Anybody have an ideas?

Basically an old 2GB Ram Dell. Nothing special.

 

Damn dude you should get that "CP" changed to "PC", you are gonna mislead a LOT of people with that title >.<

If it's nothing special, then maybe the botting option. You wouldn't get very much for a server that has 2GB on it.

Maybe that's the route I'll go then. Couple bots running would be enough I suppose.

Personally I'd just sell it to a student needing a basic laptop, take the $200 or whatever. By the time you try and bot on it etc it'll go down in value a lot and it'll be hard to recoup the loss.

Or make it NSA proof. Shove some extra ram in there and clean out the fans and install some super secure linux distro (that isn;t ubuntu). Use trucrypt to encrypt the hard drive, make an alias and never log into any of your personal stuff on it, use a vpn etc. That's what I've been doing with an old desktop for shits and giggles.

 

Use it as a personal web server, or a file server, or an IRC server, or an email server, or an ssh server. Shit computers can still handle a bit of traffic, just don't expect more than a couple people at a time. If it's only for you, you can do pretty much anything you'd like. It's a lot of fun to host your own shit and know that you built and configured everything yourself.

 

I like what the above said, great suggestion. I would use it for personal use.
