hard drive problems. . .

I just built a new pc today, and made the choice to not get a disk drive, thinking i could use the one from my laptop on it (they are all sata anyway). The power connectors were different, so i took my laptop hard drive and booted into windows on the new pc with that, and installed windows onto my ssd from there. The problem is, the pc wont boot unless the origional laptop hard drive is installed. its weird though, because it still boots off the ssd. any help with this? i dont want to keep the laptop hard drive in my new desktop since i would still like to use my laptop.
