Guide to teach your dog "shake"

Cosrob's Guide To Teach Your Dog To Shake Hands.
Maybe one of the more enjoyable guides I've made as it includes me and (cookie) my dog.

If that dog knew how to shake hands he would have that cupcake.

    Requirements:

    Your dogs favourite treat

A dog or a sister if you have one

Teaching an animal to listen and do tricks for you is no easy task. Your pet must be able to concentrate for lengthy periods of time and want to learn. The easiest way your pet to learn is to bribe him with food. Most pets (in this case dogs) would do anything food. If your pet won't do it for a treat try using one of their favourite toys. This guide can also be used to for cats as well, but give it a little more patience and time to get it working for cats.

How to teach your dog to shake hands.

Step 1. Give your dog some treats to make him/her interested in you.

Step 2. Once they are interested in you tell him/her to sit down.

Step 3. Say shake 4 or 5 times to get your dog familiar with the word "shake".

Step 4. Say "shake" once again, then grab their hand and move it up and down like how a human shakes hand.

Step 5. Give them the treat and compliment them by patting them, calling them a good boy/girl etc etc.

Step 6. Repeat step 4 and 5 another 10-12 times for the information to store into their long-term memory.

Step 7.Once they learnt what to do then take a brake for a hour or so.

Step 8. Once your brake is over put your hand near their paw and say shake if your dog has learnt it well enough he/she would give you his/her paw. If not repeat the steps above.

If your dog doesn't really work for food; use their favourite toy. If it's a ball, shake their hand then throw the ball for your pet to chase after it. If it's a tug of war toy play 1 game of tug a war then make your pet preform the trick. If none of those interest your pet try and find something that makes them happy.

    Hints, Tips and Tricks

Try to teach them just before dinner time because they are wide awake and hungry.
Try to use a dry biscuit when teaching them this trick.
Try to avoid the dog getting distracted; the best way to teach them is in a quiet room so they remain interested.

Work on your spelling and punctuation - it's fairly shocking at the moment.
Looking forwarded to seeing the updated guide though.

It was quite good, there are a number of grammatical errors that need addressing but it's readable and clear. The use of pictures helped, although it would be better if they weren't thumbnails.

We taught my dog to shake when she was 9 months. Most dogs past a few years become somewhat "unteachable" so don't get frustrated if your dog is 4 or 5 and it is hard to teach them. Also we made it so our dog only shakes with the right hand :p

No dog is unteachable they just need more practice at it.

    DRAMATIC CUPCAKE DOG!
Anyway, another good guide, I found it interesting as I taught my dog how to do this, with similar method, good use of pics, colours etc.
To improve I would make the pictures slightly more bigger. Also there is a big gap between requirements, might want to shorten it slightly.
    Good guide though, congrats.

I said somewhat. And yes it is a proven fact that a dogs brain is harder to train with age.
