How to create ringtones for your iPhone from songs on iTunes

This guide is ideal for those songs which have not been directly purchased from the iTunes store

    Step 1:
Open Itunes and Select the song you want to use to create your ringtone

    Step 2:
Right click the selected song, and click “Get Info”. Then go to the “Options” Tab and then enter a value for the “Start Time” and “Stop Time”. N.B. Ringtones have a maximum run-time of around 40 seconds so try to use a length of 25-35 seconds to be on the safe side. When finished, click “OK”

    Step 3:
Now click the “Edit” tab on the main Itunes Window, and then “Preferences”. On the “General” tab click “Import Settings” and ensure the “AAC Encoder” settings are the following:

    Step 4:
Now right click the song you had previously selected and “Create AAC Version”, you should now have a duplicate song, lasting for the length of time you had previously entered.

    Step 5:
Select your newly created 25-35 second AAC version and hit “CTRL + C” to copy it. Now, paste it to your desktop using “CTRL + V”. The AAC version will have an “.m4a” extension which you must change to an “.m4r” extension. To do this, right click the file, click “Rename”, and replace “.m4a” with “.m4r”

    Step 6:
Now for the sixth and final step, connect your Iphone and simply drag the file to the Iphone icon on Itunes.

    Enjoy your new, free, ringtone!

Thank you :) And yeah I knew that you could for those purchased from iTunes, maybe I should make it clear in the guide that this is for songs not purchased from iTunes? Think I will make the distinction actually.
