    [GUIDE] Advanced Skiing.

    Welcome to my guide.

    1. Background information.
    2. Parallel Turns
    3. Hockey stop/slide
    4. Carving
    5. Basic vert/ramp

I'm Adam, as some may already know. I've been skiing since I was roughly three years old, and have been on 17 skii excusions/holidays with my family since. My love of skiing is brushed off on my from my father, whom is now a keen snowboarder - although lacks that pretensuis 'cool' factor.

To this day i've been in various racing, downhill and slalom teams. Some of these being, Scottish national, Bellahuston and Bear's den. I resigned from these as I now like to freestyle skii, which i'll touch on the basics near the end of the guide.

    Parallel turns.

These are the essence of your advanced turns. These must be perfected and can be applied in vast situations. On an easy slope that is well within your comfort range, stand with the skis pointed across the hill. Open the tails into a wedge position, aim the skis slightly downhill, and start to slide across the slope with the skis in the wedge position (look uphill before sliding to avoid oncoming skiers). From this wedge traverse, lighten the uphill foot (it becomes the free foot), draw it toward the stance foot, and tip it strongly toward its little-toe edge to create a parallel turn finish.

This move is called the phantom turn, leading into parallel

    Hocky stopping.

This move is implanted into your skiing when; Danger arises; feel the need to show off; or you just see it as a basic stopping manvoeur.

You should start the turn like this,

You should finish the turn like this,

This turn is fairly easy once start, but the shift in momentum makes you feel uncomfortable to start with, and takes a while to get used to. Turn your skis 90 degrees simultaneously. It's important to turn your skis together to either the left or right. Tilt your skis off their bases as you turn, make sure your upper body is facing down the slope while your lower body points across the slope. Apply the preasure and watch that beutifal cloud of snow acend into the heavens.

    Carving.

Carving, i'de say is a very advanced skiing technique, but is worth every second of practice. It's the move that makes you think 'wow he's good' when you see someone else do it.
After mastering the hockey stop and parallel turn, it's not too difficult either. Start off in a parallel turn, with your feet fairly wider than other - shoulder width should be fine. As you start off, slowly allow yourself to move your uphill side hip progressively into the hill. Don’t make it a rushed movement, just smooth and progressive. It will only take a little movement to get the skis to tilt more.

    This is an advanced carve.

    Vert/Ramp

Skiing ramp and vert are the last things you want to learn, as this is where the real fun comes in.

Ski jumping is a sport in which skiers go down an inrun with a take-off ramp, attempting to go as far as possible. This also sadly takes ALOT more practice, and you have to be very fit and agile. It involves you taking off into the air and trying to glide.

Skiing freestyle is a whole different ball-game, and is often reffered to as 'Vert'. Participents use halfpipes, quater pipes, rails and kickers to propel themselves into the air to preform varied tricks. They can also grind along a rail, propeling themselves to the other end.

Thanks for reading my guide, and I hope you learned something from it.

Doesn't matter, google is just a search engine. Those aren't googles inages they are images from an individual website. You must give them credit by putting the sources of the pictures.
