    New Laptop

I had the Asus G73 (a VERY similar machine in specs and looks, just one and a half generations down from this G75) and it lasted me three years. Eventually, since this seems to use the same [integrated] AC port, it will wear loose and will stop charging. Since it's integrated, it'll be more expensive to fix, around $120 third party. The G73 had a factory defect with all models on its touch pad, and this was not covered under their warranty, as there was no replacing it. Similarly, their charger port wasn't covered either. So be wary. Their warranty policies and customer service is awful. If it turns out they still haven't fixed their touch pad issues, better pick up a mouse to carry around with you. The touch pad is the most frustrating thing I've ever used in my life, absolutely NO exaggeration. If it's activated, trying to type fucks with the pad. Barely touching the pad to use it makes any webpage you're looking at shrink immediately to 10%, scroll in every direction, and highlights everything the mouse runs over, clicking the entire time on everything the mouse touches.

The machine itself is decent. Durable for sure, took it's fair share of bumps and bruises from my toting it around. My 3 year old, 35 pound niece stood on it at one point, and it didn't break the screen or any of the parts. I'm not exceptionally clumsy, but the computer's size makes it sometimes unmanageable to carry and I've dropped it once. No obvious damage, internal OR cosmetic... The charger is approximately 8x4x4 inches, weighs 5 pounds. the rubber casing on your charger cord will wear quickly, but the inner rubber casings have held over the years for me, so there shouldn't be cause for concern. Just looks ugly. You are obviously aware of the computer's size since it's a 17" screen, but it's worse than you might think. The case is exceptionally bulky since it has huge integrated fans behind the hinge, and there's at least an inch of boarder space all the way around the screen, adding unnecessary bulk. On top of everything, it's thick as fuck, thicker than you may realize. It almost didn't fit under my arm when I tried to carry it and my arms are pretty long. I literally could NOT bring this machine anywhere without someone looking at me all wide eyed, and shouting "HOLY SHIT, IS THAT A TRANSFORMER???" 25% because it looks cool, 75% because it's larger than Optimus Prime.

The machine runs hot, so make sure you have a cooling pad if you're using it in your lap/on any sort of soft, insulating surface. If it's sitting on a desk or a hard surface, then it does fine. Graphics are decent, I was able to connect it to another HDMI hi-def TV as a second screen and it continued to perform admirably what with graphical prowess and multitasking ability. One thing to be careful is not to let the machine hibernate. It will sometimes crash the motherboard, and will refuse to turn back on for hours. It will light up the backlight, but it doesn't load the BIOS, and you'll be SOL until it decides to fix itself. I found that if you turned it on, waited about half a second, then held the power button down for 10+ seconds, it forces the BIOS to reset itself, and will start back up normally, but that only worked half the time. Letting the machine die puts it in hibernation, and there's no way for you to change that feature, so make sure you don't let it die, or you risk it pooping out on you for a while.

PS for future reference 1000GB is just 1terabyte (TB)

Overall assessment: the most inconvenient laptop, yet the most portable desktop there is. A powerful machine, but tbh almost not worth the cash. I went with a desktop recently now that I finally had to replace my G73 because it's cheaper, longer lasting, and no less convenient despite being stationary.

EDIT: also, the screen is high gloss, very annoying to use when light hits the screen

And I thought it was only me. I had all those problems on my G73. The mousepad was so fucking annoying along with having to replace the AC port every year. No idea if they fixed it in the G75 but the G73 sucked.

I really don't know why everyone rages about Asus laptops all the time. Honestly, you can get WAY WAY more machine for your money by going with clevo, MSI, or even with the new sli lenovo laptops. And you get a reliable machine that is completely upgradeable(not the lenovo) for the future generations of GPUS. While Asus makes a nice machine, sure, I don't like recommending them. They're just enthusiast gaming laptops, that's all...call it entry level if you will. Lenovo fits into this category just the same with their Y series. Difference is they do it far better than Asus IMO, and sadly they're new to that scene. If you wanted to do it right, you ought to have looked elsewhere, and done more research.

Thank you for the replies, particularly Moh for that very detailed response. I read the whole thing :D Hopefully they have fixed some of the issues listed in the new series.

As far as alternative choices go, my close friend got a RoG recently and is extremely satisfied with it so that affected my decision a fair amount i suppose.

Yeah, i've got a Asus Laptop and most of my components on my desk are from Asus. It's one of the best brands for computer components with high quality material.

Of Course people name Clevos and other brands due to it being cheaper to build a laptop with better specs but don't compare the design or quality of materials on it because it's not comparable ;)

Their monitors are my favorite, the best colors for the best price.
I think you did very well picking out your new laptop. Although you may want to think about installing an SSD.

Yah, i was considering getting it an SSD but as this was already at the top of my price range I didn't really have the money.

Once you get the money you really want to install one. It should not be to hard to install one. They really aren't that expensive anymore.
