    GPU Advice

Right now, I have an EVGA GeForce GTS 450. It's got a 128-bit bus width, 1GB GDDR5, OC to 900Mhz core, 1800Mhz shader, 2000Mhz memory.

In GPU intensive applications I've noticed my GPU load maxes out WAAAY before my memory does. During a FurMark 1080P benchmark, I'm at 100% GPU load with 13% memory load. It's obvious the amount of memory I have isn't the bottleneck, but the memory bandwidth.

So I ask you.. how much of an improvement would I see if I upgrade to a GTX 470 ($179.99 on EVGA's website right now.. incredible price ) with a 320-bit bus width, 1280mb GDDR5, and similar clock speeds. Would the 1.5x faster bus speed give me a 1.5x greater performance? The 470 also has 448 stream processors, compared to the GTS 450's 192.. but I'm not sure what kind of an impact those have anyway.

You can see the difference easily if upgrading to the one you mentioned, although it wont be 1.5x but its still noticeable.

Ive had both in use at work, and theres a difference (other parts are the exact same in both computers), i feel that the 470 runs alot smoother then 450.

Thanks for that, but actually, the highest GTS 450 scored half as much as the lowest GTX 470, so it should be a pretty damn big improvement I hope (not including mobile versions obviously)

But yeah thanks for that link, I feel confident I'm getting a worthy upgrade now.
