Because I can read and write it. I can't understand the language fully but I can understand bits of it. You don't need to understand a language to be able to memorize something from it, amirite?

Also, if you don't understand arabic, there is nearly no point to being a hafiz, as knowing some words that you don't understand, has no effect or meaning.
