    Is money an issue?

I really like my Surface book 2. I am able to sustain a good battery life if I'm only typing/programming and making sure everything is closed when not being used.

Otherwise, I've had some luck with the Surface Pro 3/4 as well for my goto when I'm on the go :).

Lenovo has some pretty dope laptops for battery usage and size. Don't buy cheapest ones tho, just stick to the 900+ laptops.

Do you live near a BestBuy? Go in a take visual and physical look at all the laptops. You might love the way one looks, but the keyboard is terrible. Start from here. Then, find that specific laptop with the specs you desire.

    IT Network Administrator here.
Dell: If you want cheaper without gaming but reliability
Mac: If you want to waste money, there is no justifiable reason for a student to buy a mac over a PC. Especially for how careless Apple is as a company.
Lenovo: Cheap to get you by
MSI: What I bought myself, powerful machine and even though it's a "gaming laptop" I don't use it for gaming, is decently reliable.
HP: Very reliable computers that are easy to use with a ton of support options, the local hydro company I work for as IT Support is generally an HP shop.

My recommendation assuming you don't want to play any graphically fertile games would be HP or Dell, if anyone advises Mac, please let me convince you otherwise.

    Please be a joke

Going to stores is an alright option, but in my experience it very much pays to shop around online.

Also, never buy more than you'd realistically need for a warranty. 1 year warranty is fine, most things above that it would be worth it just to pay to get it fixed or fix it yourself in my opinion

You hit the nail on the head with your breakdown. What I meant though is that you go to the store just to get a feel, then shop around.

For example. If you like the way the Dell Inspiron 7000 series feel, then go and figure out which store (online / retail) has the best price with the specs you want.

Just a heads up: If you're doing anything with financial statements or the like (or any Excel work whatsoever), please please please please get a Windows computer. Excel is hell on a Mac.

If you DO NOT want to use it as your main gaming laptop as well (because you have a desktop too or whatever) then go for a compact 13-15" ish screen. If you have a better pc at home, there is no need to carry around a massive thing; then you want something lightweight that fits in your bag.

I bought a $1700 or so gaming laptop a few years ago that was top of the line as a bday present to myself a few years ago. No regrets. (Tax deductable coz I use it for my rwt business ftw).

Tbf, you can boot camp windows and if you have a 1tb or 500gb ssd MacBook Pro like me, you can just allocate half of that to Windows. Although the keyboard is a lil funky for windows imo
