I'm planning on getting four GTX 680s and putting them in four way SLI with Liquid cooling. Should I do that or Two GTX 690s?

I would get 4 680s. From what I understand they are faster than two 690's in sli, though there is not a lot of benchmarks on the web to prove that. Comes down to personal opinion really, as they both are probably around the same as the other.

What exactly would you use them for? You would have no problem maxing any game on just 2 of either. If you're using them professionally, get a professional gpu like a Quadro of Firepro.

Yeah imo it's kinda pointless unless you're running tri-screen 3D games. If I had to pick though, 4x680s is probably the better choice in terms of raw performance (haven't looked up benchmarks, but if the trend follows that of previous generations that should be the case)

4 670's already are better than 2 690's and 680's are great for quad SLI, so get that :)

This is a waste of money isn't it? You can play any PC game perfectly fine with enough FPS with alot less.

He probably has a 3-5 monitor setup which would explain why he's buying 4 gtx 680s.

Because of this, 4 680s will perform better than 2 690s.

Well that still doesn't mean you need 4 of them, you can easily hook up 4 monitors with less than 4 graphic cards :S
