Id have to agree with scylla, rune pures still have defense but they also have killer offence. Barrows pure would be better though.

F2P: Be a Mager with 59 magic for blast, 40 defence with dragon slayer done with rune helm, rune pl8/dhide plate and rune pl8 legs /green dhide legs to tank them

P2P:Be a Mager With Desert Treasure done, be 82 mage, it's enough. For tanking them: verac helm, Karil plate, Verac skirt.

94 mage 75 defense 80 attack 90 str 70 range.
that would do well.

I shall train Magic on a noob account because you don't need the charge.
And in the first levels you can't wear the stuff you can buy with the tokens.
